This comes down to the shop not doing their work right. I think it is proven that a simple check would have prevented this problem. However, as a consumer/customer, I should not have to really care what the shop does. I say, install these heads and cam and I pay you the money for it. Glad to hear that the shop is trying to right their wrongs.
I agree totally.
With my MTI Stealth II they had a bad batch that was messed up on multiple lobes and that was found by a member degreing the cam at every lobe. Luckily I hadn't mine installed yet and didn't find out the hard way.
I degreed the replacement and it was on the ball.

I believe the motor was turned by hand before starting.
I think in tear down the cam gears will be off a tooth.

They are going to fly cut the new pistons to be safe. Any word on how much is good and how much is too much? I think LG takes .080 off the Intake spot.

What was ever found out about this????

Some very good points were brought up on this thread. From my own personal experience we had some real issues when came to tuning and and it seemed a little low on power. The first step in our troubleshooting was to try to eliminate any mechanical issues. I'm in the process of putting a new cam in in which I plan to degree and check PTV clearance. If anything to verify that it and the adjustable timing set were machined and installed correctly. My first cam was one of those "top secret" cams. The only choice was to install it dot-to-dot and hope for the best.

Guys...

I believe when the smoke cleared, this was attributed to the camshaft being installed improperly. It can happen to the best of us....that is why it is imperative to double and triple check everything.

Amen Tony! I degree and check P-V on every single install. No exceptions. Just today I had a cam go in that was supposed to install at 113* ICL dot-to-dot but it came in at 109.5*. Big difference.

No. Need an adjustable gear set.

While I can't say I'm not guilty of the same thing, J-Rod and others are right. Period.

Last 3 installs were the D2D/rotate by hand method on relatively "small" cams(degree wheel mysteriously... dissapeared ). All is well. Guess I've been lucky 3 times.

New wheel on the way.....

Sorry to hear 'bout this. Glad the installer is doing the right thing. Keep us posted as to your findings.

When building a new motor, if the block is not new, keep in mind that it make be decked. While that should not be a lot, it is one more factor to account for when doing your math.
