Default Matching cam for 225 heads?

I'm looking into AFR 225 heads, i was wondering if a 224/227 114 lsa cam would be enough to fullfill it or if the heads are way too large, since they are still 5.7 liter heads they would keep the same compression correct, but would that be a good cam for NA until i get supercharged on stock displacement?

The valves are too big for stock bore and wouldn't work well in a 346. You would be better off going with the 205 heads. For a blower you would probably want to go with a bigger split cam.

They come with 2.02 valves, so they aren't to much for a stock bore. They are however a m,ax effort head, so I think you'd need more cam to take advantage of them over a 205. That being said, that isn't what I would call a blower cam that you have listed.

Hmmm... 2.020 J-rod???

Me thinks you did a boo-boo...

2.080-1.60 valve combo on the 225's...

Go with the 205 AFR"s,are you supercharging or turbo?Keep your CR in mind for the later FI.For either you want a wider LDA with the supercharger you need about 8 to 10 degrees more exhaust duration, for the turbo they"ll be about the same.114 to 116 LDA should be about right, check the guys in the Forced Induction section about the cam.

Do you know something that the engineer that is designing these heads doesn't? Tony has already stated publically that the 225's will work just fine on a max effort 346 and he will prove it with his own car.

Well I think I do know something about these AFR heads and for a stock application, I also feel the 205 is still the best cylinder head package out there.

However, in J-rod's defense, the "warning" seemed to be looking out for "potential" issues that this engine may have with the bigger intake valve. I could be wrong, and he'll correct me, but the 205 is one trouble free installation so it' was a great recommendation....

On my personal '04 GTO, both Tony and Rick wanted me to start off with the 205 heads just because of the stock block and street type application. When I told them I was going to go a bit an extreme later on, "then" the 225 heads were decided on as the better choice. I'll probably still go the 205 at first, for a baseline but once things get rolling, the bigger 245... err... umm... 225's will find their way on...

Bottom line... even the "engineer" at AFR suggests the 205 heads for most stock block applications...

Ed have you gotten any 225's wondering if you had any chance to profile out a camshaft?

what sized cam would take most advantage of these heads with NA performance, and thunder racing even says that the cam was for supercharged and nitrous applications, but anyways, continue on, whats the best strongest power cam i could get for the ls1 346 with 225's and 205's, NA and SC'd

Well as an engineer myself I do know a little something about airflow. AFR stated specifically that these are intended for big displacement motors. Unless the guy was building an extreme 346 then I don't see it being worth the added expense. Since he is talking fi, then cranking up the boost would be a better idea.
There really isn't a "best" cam to recommend. It all depends on what you want to use the car for. Do you want a stock idle or a nasty lope? Generally for nitrous of fi you would use a cam with an 8-10 degree split towards the exhaust side. ex 224 intake 232 exhaust on a 114 lsa.

well, i plan on doing heads and cam to start...but eventually possibly supercharging, and after supercharger maybe a lil shot of nitro...possibly stroked later on too...its all money issues right now...anyways, i was wondering, being that it wont benifit much if at all over the 205's, would it be a bad choice to choose the 225's just so i dont ahve to go back and replace 205's...or would i LOSE power by doing 225's over 205's?

being that its still a 5.7 head and i wouldnt lose compression....would it hurt my performance over 205's at all?
