Default Revving to 14,000 rpms?

Is it possible, I know they destroked a LS1 not too long ago to a ?302? I can't remember its peak rpm. Is this possible to reach rpms over 10k with a ls1? What parts would be involved?

Kids, don't try this at home.

It may be possible, but not for long.

Based on your question, I would agree with that statement.

One thing I know is that nascar uses a 350 ci, and they only run to 9,000 rpms, and how many millions of dollars do they have for research and development?

Get rid of your rev limiter and put your foot to the floor and see what happens, let us know.

Again, a man thinks outside of the box, trying to acomplish(sp?) something against the norm and people skoff at him. You guys are too cool.

Dole_Pineapple, here is what little info I know. I had a LT1 before the 2k Formy I had, and was all into that.

There is a guy who has a very well built LT1 that reves over 8500 RPM's, I know its over but I dont know how close to 10K RPM's it achieves. It reves like a Motercycle, no joke.

One of the main keys in this was the parts were all super lightweight. I know he used aluminum rods.

I don't mind anyone laughing at what I asked, I realize how out of the question it seems, but I mean with enough $$$ anything is possible. There was a guy with a C5R revving pretty close to 10, thats another site I cannot find. Dammit I wish I had my old computer and my old favorites. Whats the max most guys average? around 7-7500ish?

The T-Rex guys are revvin pretty high, Fireball is shifting @ ~7k IIRC. There's surely some custom cams goin a little higher. You'll be looking at a very expensive custom bottom AND top end to rev into the 8-9k range with an LSx series motor. She'd scream like a banshee tho.

What about using something like crome moly or titanium to forge the bottom end?

i'm not a metallurgy student, so i'm not current on titanium processes....what would it cost to "forge" titanium? can it be done? i know to weld it you need to be in a pure environment, of some sort of gas. thats why we don't have titanium headers, its so damn expensive to weld. chrome moly would probably be more feasible. dunno about cost tho, or what process it'd need to go through so it could withstand the kind of pressure it'd face in the bottom end of a motor.

You need to remember that improving breathing sufficiently to take advantage of higher engine speeds may be more difficult than avoiding breakage.

LOL lets tackle one problem at a time If he were to go with a C5R setup, he'll have to go with a custom intake anyhow. That should help (not cure, but help) the issue. C5R heads flow pretty damn well.

You want to go TWICE the RPM the middle of the road guys are going.

No, you won't see 14,000 with an LS1.

Well, maybe once

lets try this:

lightest pistons known to man.
Titanium connecting rods.
Titanium crank with about a 2" stroke.
Ohc conversion.
Pneumatic valves
Smaller, lighter valves.
Freaking huge profile camshafts.
Idle at 7,000 rpm.
Sounds like a F1 engine or a CART like engine.

Why the need to go that high? What is your goal to have the highest revving LS1? Just go buy a GSXR if you want a high revving vehicle. Why not have a car that does the dishes? Ill tell you why cause its a stupid ******* idea.

With fully forged internals, 3.25" stroke crank, 6.2" rods, titaninum valves, Comp Cam 978 dual springs, solid roller cam and rockers arms, I think you could hit 9500 rpms pretty easy.
