Default 6.0 HEADS WORTH IT?

Ok guys i have a set of 6.0 heads, all stock. Two questions, are they worth swaping onto my 02 SS, and if yes what cam would you run with these heads? I have SLP CME exhaust a cutout, SLP MAF, 5177 kit, SLP CAI, and working on a ported TB. and its a M6.

Thanks for any help.

I would not slap stock ones onto your motor, they have smaller valve sizes than our stock LS1 valves.

So could any machine shop replace the valves with bigger ones. Or is there a place i should send them to get work done? Would they offer that much of and advantage on a stock bottom end motor?

I agree with PSJ, stock they aren't as good as the 5.7 heads you already have. However if you get those 6.0's ported then you will see a much bigger increase in rwhp and rwtq with a cam. Andy's Auto Performance in Monrovia (LS1.tech sponsor) does great work on 6.0 heads, a set of theirs are going on my 388 big bore and also went and a heads/cam car that made 447 rwhp/409 rwtq thru Mac's and a single cutout. (626)477-3707, call and ask for Mark, his prices and work are great!

I have a set of stock 6.0L heads on right now, it's temporary while I'm waiting for my ARE heads to get reworked. I also have the TR224 cam. I wasn't aware that the stock valve sizes are smaller. Anyway, I haven't dynoed or been to the track yet, but I would guess using my butt meter that you won't gain much from using stock 6.0L heads over stock 5.7L heads.

from what i have seen is that they are basically the same as the z06 heads, just that they have a larger combustion chamber. I think they lower a stock ls1 to 9.2:1 compression. Good for forced induction or a YS trim, in somebodies case.

What year are the heads? I'm having a hard time believing the stock 6.0 heads are worse than the stock LS1 heads. It's my understanding the 6.0 heads have the same valve sizes. 2.00" and 1.55" as the LS1. If they were milled alone to bump compression they would be much improved over the stock LS1 heads. The Intake flow numbers clearly show that stock for stock the 6.0 heads flow better than the 5.7s. The Exhaust flow numbers are a wash with the 6.0 flowing more for grunt down low and the LS1 flowing more up top as expected. Lust my opinions from what I've read.

Well, you WILL GAIN something using those stock 6.0 heads:

Your going to gain cylinder head CCs. But don't get to excited about that... The stock 6.0 heads have bigger chambers than your 5.7 heads. And those bigger chambers will lower your compression ratio. Thats good if your running lots of boost. However, in your case, you just [lost] HP and torque.

Ron,

The 6.0 heads have 210cc intake ports and 70cc chambers, supposedly. The also hava 2.00 and 1.55 valves, same as the 5.7. The 5.7s have 200~201 cc intake ports and 67cc chambers.

I milled my 6.0 0.030 and the chambers cc'd to 63.5 cc. With mild porting and Ferrea 2.02/1.55 valves I picked up 20hp.

Without out porting and milling the 6.0, it's not worth the swap. Buy a set of Stage I's from one of the spronsor if you are looking for a budget increase. Porting them yourself is not worth your time either, trust me.
