TSP Torquer vs. TR230?
Hello everybody. I'm done with all my bolt-ons/exhaust and now I believe it is time to start thinking about a cam and valve springs. I'm keeping stock heads for now, just because I'm into the 'process' of things and like doing things step by step, so I want to see where cam/bolt-ons will bring me. Keeping this in mind, I've selected a few possible cams. I originally wanted a TSP Torquer cam (233/233 duration, .589/.589 lift, 112 LSA), but now I'm really interested in the Thunder Racing TR230 cam (230/224 duration, .575/.563 lift, 111 LSA), because from what I've heard/seen the reverse split works very well with stock and mild ported heads, which is what I want. What I'm looking for in terms of performance is strong midrange horsepower/torque, with a wide, flat torque curver, and killer top end, with decent driveability (don't need stock idle or anything). I know the TR230 is probably going to be more of a bitch to tune, but that's alright. Which would you do? I also saw the TSP 228R Reverse-split cam (228/224, .588/.581, 112 LSA), which could work as well. Please give any/all opinions and advice. Thanks as always.

I did the same thing, When I got done with the bolt on's I started to search for the right cam. TR suggested the TR230, I went one step down to the TR227 to play it safe & I used the Comp 918 springs. It didn't idle to good until TSP help with the tune.

Only one of the cams listed above I have expierience with is the TR230/224. I had this cam in my '98 Z28 M6, only other mods being a lid and heades. Only put down 386rwhp (untuned) but trapped at 117mph in the 1/4 mile. Made good torque and was very streetable. That's one of the smaller cam's I have expierience with though :p

Well my car is the only cammed LS1 I've ridden in but man I love this cam. Slight surging off idle but no big deal. Really goes insane around 4k. Sounds just like an open header drag car when it comes in there. Great torque down low, waaay stronger than stock from 2k up. Great sound too. I actually wish it were a bit more radical sounding, but I think I got a REALLY good tune which might account for that.

TR230 here. Put down 395/377 at the wheels w/ 3" duals. I'm about to switch to 3" RT cats, 2.5" Ypipe, flowmaster merge, and a hooker catback and see where that leaves me on the dyno/assometer relative to what its doing now.
This cam is amazing though.

I don't know how well it will work with your auto setup, but the TR230 is great in my ' 02 WS6 M6. Stock heads, ported MAF, ported TB, ASP pulley, Hooker LTs, 3" single exhaust, 12 Bolt w/4.11s, and a mail order tune...11.5@120.3, 1.73 60', 3500lbs, da +100ft. Never had it on a dyno, but I would like to get it tuned for real. Just added a NW/FAST90 and soon installing 85mm MAF and Pro-Shifted tranny. Hoping for alot more from this combo. I didn't expect such a mild cam to pull so effing hard.

tr230, had one for about 2 years, loved it on the highway, dynoed 383hp and like 365tq (untuned). it made power all the way to 6500rpm. Some idle problems after install, needed to drill the throttle body plate so it would idle.

TR230 here and absolutely love it. It has awesome midrange and topend. Like Vipretr 2 said, pulls effing hard from any speed. We had a few bugs getting it tuned, but runs like a champ now. My 11.93 pass was full weight with 3/4 tank of gas and partial tune....not making excuses, just saying I know there's more in it. We got the tune ironed out shortly after this run and I haven't been back yet.
