Default G5x3?????

I know this cam puts down some great power on stock heads. So runnin ported and polished heads will be even better. So, what kind of heads can I run with this cam and still be in a safe zone with PTV clearance? Would Patriot st. 2 LS6 heads fit w/ 59 cc chambers?(not milled) How good is this cam on spray?
TIA,
Rob

The cam is supposed to love nitrous. I run it NA on stock heads and it's great. The cam rips. You just have to spin it high due to the wide LSA. As far as P to V clearance, it will fit any unmilled stock decked head. The AFR 225s may not clear due to the larger valves.

Here's my car's idle with Kooks 1 3/4, catted Y pipe, and Corsa. It's very tame until WOT. Hold on.

How does it compare to a X1 cam from MTI? I pulled 414rwhp safely tuned with mine running A4 and 12-bolt! I`m planning a LSX 90mm with TB and kooks 1 7/8 next month. That would be a good time to change my cam. Just thinking about a switch!

Nope.
X1

230 227 .591 .571 112

X3 is bigger on the intake side, and a lot bigger on the exhaust. Lift is more also.

Here we go again. It's bigger than the X1 by MTI. That's about all you know.

A bud of mine is running the G5X3 with PP LS6 "style" heads. Don't know dyno #'s, but it's running a 11.4 @ 121 I believe through an M6. Not too bad. Good bang for the buck setup, those PP heads are pretty cheap now.

I really don't know much about cams and the more I search the more confused I get.
So this particular G5x3 cam is able to be used on stock heads but if you upgrade heads later it can still be used? What kinda of HP can you get out of this cam with stock heads and lets say my mods? Also what springs, retainers, pushrods etc.... are recomended to go with this cam? Does this cam produce a noticable idle sound, is it real choppy does it sound bad ***. I really need to know what all I need to complete a cam project and if this one is cool to go with. I wish someone had a sound clip.

Look on ls1 sounds theres a couple soundclips there. Also call lg they will tell you what springs they recommend. i would say definately a dual spring and any top brand pushrod like comp, manley, tsp, etc..

LG installed the G5X3 in my vette. They used comp 921d springs, and hardened pushrods. My A4 coupe with this cam and LG long tubes made 385rwhp and 374rwtq. I am running the stock heads. I just saw a post on corvetteforum.com that a guy added LG long tubes, the G5X3, AFR 205 heads and made 457rwhp and 417rwtq in his Z06.

I made in the 390rwhp range with mine, but then I still have cats that are clogging up and the car is running a little rich so there is more power to be had. There is a guy on here that with stock heads made 408rwhp and some have made more. My mods are at my cardomain site. Im on stock 98 heads

Call LG Motorsports 972-272-7753 www.LGMotorsports.com

You will not have PTV Problems on any stock deck head, stock Valve head. With a cam of this size, you will need to check PTV no matter what. There is not enough room to just slap it all together and go with out knowing.

The way the cam sits on stock heads, it has ~70 thou of clearance. That is about as tight as you want to run it. Of course you can, and we have gone tigheter, but that is up to you.

Search Valve drop on this forum, and it will tell you an easy way to check PTV. You just have to PM me your numbers you get from the valve drop, and I can tell you your clearance and what will and what will not fit. Plus you may have to flycut.

Let me know if I can help

Louis
