Question 8.0L Stroker

Do you guys think it would be possible to build a 8.0l stroker using any of the available LS1 blocks. A 8.0L would be a 488 cubic inch monster. I was think of making emblems that say Z08 if it could be done.

Using a Darton MID resleeved block bored to 4.155" and a 4.25" crank would get you about 7.5L but, those are the biggest bore and stroke I've heard of being used on a LS1.

Bigger than that I doubt is possible as the cylinders are only spaced 4.4" apart and the deck height(among other things) of the block really can't support anymore stroke.

So a 454 would be about the biggest I can get right now then?

That stroke and bore I mentioned above works out to a 461.

A 454 LS1 uses a 4.125" bore and 4.25" stroke.

I believe the max with that is also 4.155". Maybe someone else that knows for sure will chime in.

to get to the 8.0 there is going to have to be some cash you are going to have to drop. You might be able to take the 7.0 and get it to a 8.0. Going to have to wait and find out the specs on the block. I dont think you will ever beable to take an ls1 or ls6 or ls2 to a 8.0.

You would not have a very good design for a engine if you went that big. The rod/stroke ratio would be very bad. Oil consumption might be a problem also. I am sure some one could build it though. You can do anything if you have enuff money and resources.

i know a 454 C5R based engine is possible, SLP built one, but why go bigger? Different is not always better.

lol, 8 liters is huge. The old viper engines were 8liter. I remember steve saying something about the darton sleeves could be bored out more then 4.155 but no one has gaskets for anythign larger then 4.155 yet.

You can always have custom gaskets made -- that is not the problem. The sleeves get very thin even at 4.155.

The MID sleeve has almost four times the wall thickness in the body area as the dry liners. The current sleeves will go safely to 4.155". If I can get Cometic to make a 4.200" gasket we will come out with a 4.200" capable sleeve.

Even with a 4.2 bore and 4.25 stroke, you would only have a 7.7L (471 cid)

Default Not just yet but maybe in the future

I have been contemplating making a deck plate kit for the LS1 similar to my Honda piece. I think the crankcase will swing a 4.375" crank (perhaps longer) with the right rods. Raising the deck height is the only way you could do this and end up with a long enough rod and sleeve in the motor.

I don't know how much hood clearance there is to play with on the Vette and Camaro and still close the hood. To get a reasonable L/S ratio, the deck height would need to be raised to 9.800" same as the big block or higher.

I'm fairly certain I can get everything to seal up and fit properly but I'm not sure if people would be willing to pay for it.

Deck plate is the only way. With a block this big, none of the popular
manifolds will work right.

When is edelbrock going to release a Vic jr or Super Vic for the great LS1?
