I did a small right up about it a few weeks ago. Do a search for my name and the post should come up.

i pulled the engine out as a shortblock from the top, tranny was already out. i pulled the k-member and a-arm from the bottom, obviously. k-member, engine, and tranny will all go in from the bottom when i put it back together. didnt plan on doing a write up as theres already plenty of decent walkthroughs out there. i must say though that the car was alot higher then i thought it'd be , the head lights were even with my head and im 5' 6".

Damn, too bad you're not into drag racing. Short and skinny: A narrow midget kart seat-extra cage room, and weighing just over 100lbs is like a measly 10hp loss to the car. Want to run down the strip a few times for me? Hell, that's another 100lbs off my car

who says weight reduction is only for the strip . nothing like more power and less weight to add to the fun of lapping a road course .

Let us know the dyno results of this uber el8 cam. Sure, it's a dyno but share the honesty when you can.

Try "Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s" by Will Handzel, whose day job is with GM Performance Parts. Just out. He has pages and pages of instructions and pix of the R and R from the bottom. Avail from Amazon as a package with the other LS1 book that has been out for a bit.

Like this....

Perhaps a picture will help you understand things a bit more. Again, you are getting hung up on one point on the cam (lift @ .050) vs the whole lobe (which is a common mistake). So, lets look at this 256 lobe .

BBC lobe 3358 on a BBC core is 254 degrees (goes to ~256 on a LS1) lift @ .200 is 163. Gross duration is 310. Lift with a 1.7 rocker is .575

Now lets compare that lobe to the 'ultra mild' 232 XE-R. I mean come on its 20 degrees smaller. Its a baby lobe right? You tell me...

The XE-R 232 lobe is 232 @.050 153@.200 and 281 gross with .595 lift w 1.7 rocker

Lets look at the 242/242 106LSA 105 ICL (Aussie cam)

Lets compare a 242 BBC Marine lobe to a 242 XE-R lobe

BTW, the blue line is the BBC lobe.

As you can see, bigger in one part the same in others, and smaller somewhere else... Does this help?
