I did it once and don't think I bent anything. I didn't pull the covers to look, but I've noticed no engine symptoms.
My rear end came loose which saved the engine from overrevving. I also didn't power shift which probably helped. It did toast the rear end though...

Welcome to the board. Keep us posted with what you find out about your SC'ed GTO. Either let me know on here, or on clubgp... BTW, I survived a 3rd-to-4th mis-shift (instead into 2nd at 88mph, or about 7k rpm, give or take), and my pushrods lived...

I'm waaaay slow on the uptake, but I just realized I did the infamous 3rd to 2nd "upshift." Never did it before...

And I am totally surprised that nothing broke (engine still running strong) because I didn't get out of it quickly.

My car actually got a little sideways when I popped the clutch, so I didn't disengage much at all.

Thanks to the chromemoly pushrods ( I would guess), I survived the night.
