ssantoro110, are saying that just because of winter? I plan to do a cam someday but I also have my truck for winter so the car stays parked during bad weather.

238/242 cam here in my daily driver. Keeping a car driveable with a big cam is all in the tuning IMO. The ONLY thing I don't like with the big cam is cold start idles. Have to let the car warm up good/idle for a while before you can put it in reverse or else it will surge very bad and sometimes even die. But just driving around is no big deal. I have driven the car all over town, and even in very slow traffic.
I think surging is one of the main problems people see with a big cam.

The only other thing that has not been stated about a cam swap is all of the things that need to be done when you do it; like valve springs, push rods, tuning, etc. It costs more than just buying the cam. I have been purchasing things over a period of time for my cam swap. I will be installing the F12 (230/230) at X-mas. The car is my daily driver but I feel I have done my homework so I am prepared. Hopefully everything turns out right. Good luck with your selection.

Good catch tomaSS. Yep theres lots of littles stuff to bite you in the *** the first attempt at your own cam install, even more so if its the 1t ever cam install. I used to do SBC but the 1st LS1 was mine, and it was surprisingly easy, due to the lifter issue etc.. There are plenty of ppl on here that will chime in help, as long as you leave your laptop/pc near your install site for fast friendly help. Also, one thing to consider is getting a few extra valve stem locks, let me tell you, those little bastards have a way of popping out and hiding, found a couple in the heat shields

BTW, been running the TSP 231/237 112 cam in my A4 for over a year, Definately daily driver read: only car on island at that time, and absolutely loved it. Nothing like nice cams, street tires and a LS1!

You will eat tires with a locker. I had a 228/228 .588/.588 112 in my daily driver for a year, had the hotcam in for a year prior. With stock gears, it wil fine around town and on long trips. I drove it in Daytona for spring break no problem in heavy traffic all day.

MTI just made a new cam Y1 234 240 .598 .608 113LSA and I love it. I was the first to install it. Check Sig for numbers. Call david at MTI and talk to him about it.

beardWS6,
How much more power did you see from your old cam to this new one?

I believe I got 15-20rwhp from the new cam. I was pulling 380-389rwhp when they switched everything.

If you want a mid-big cam and want to keep the 3.42s, there will be no problem. If you stall out, it's because you can't drive. The bigger gearing is recommended to fit the power band of the cam and optimize acceleration. I would recommend a Futral FM11 or FM13.

It's still a lot easier to stall out though with a bigger cam on stock gears. Power right at idle sucks, but it does pick up quickly.

232/240 .595/.609 in my A4 daily driver with 3:42 gears. A/C and all power options still in car. You have to let it warm up a little before putting the car in gear but then it drives fine from then on. Long hauled the Power Tour with it. Put almost 15,000 miles on it this year. Ran 6.7 in the 1/8th a few weeks ago on an unprepped track.

Thanks for all the input guys. I dont think I will install the cam my self, but a local shop is installing any cam I choose, with all accessories needed, with a dyno-tune for $1300. Sounds like a good price. So i will stick with that.

I would assume that free, wide-band updates were included? If it's a shop you feel comfortable with then I say go ahead. I would recommend getting some first-hand information about their skills and service charactersistics.

Oh for sure, you non-driving *******. J/K Bigger cams can definetely change low rpm driving, but you could manage a big-dick cam even with 2.73s.

TSP 228R cam here with stock gears. I am very happy with this cam. Sort of wish I would have went a little bigger, I could sacrifise some more driveability. I can get 24.5mpg still with tune. As long as you do not have to crawl in traffic often you will be fine. I would look at the FM13 or TSP 233 Torquer Cams. 1st -3rd you will get some surging if you are coasting or light throttle at low RPM (under 1700 or so). 6th at 55mph for me though is not a problem, no surging.
