Depends on what shop is installing it, how long it takes them to install it, and how much they charge per hour. I'd say $800 for a cam install is a good price if you have a pro shop do it. I've heard MTI charges close to 1200 down in Houston.

Don Lee Auto did my cam install.
They charged $440.. well worth it..
www.donleeauto.com

Their work is impecable and they work FAST. They started on my car at 7AM and were done by noon.. this includes waiting 30 minutes for a belt I needed and the mechanic taking a 30 minute lunch

A good shop could cost $400-$600. Speed Inc quoted me $600 for full install with dual springs awhile back. It's a fairly time consuming job. I'm lucky, my **** will get installed for minimal financial cost next month, I could never afford to pay a shop....gotta love car buddies

here 's the quotes I got for my Y2K C5 two weeks ago in the New York Area:
Im going to supply everything the prices are just for labor. To replace the cam, push rods, ports LS6 oil pump, rollmaster timing chain, ASP pulley, all the gaskets, 28.8 injectors, and the 918 springs for TR224 cam. I have all the gaskets so the shops I called only had to only install and tune the car. "They" say its about 10hrs labor I was paying for:

The vette Doctors, $1000.00 and I can come back in the summer for a re-tune for free when the weather changes. And a free retune if I have them do additional mods.

TTP, $960.00 install and tune with $150 retune if I do additional mods

East Coast Superchargers $1300.00 They were the first I called so I didnt ask about re-tuning

Ill be going to the vette doctors

This is im supplying everything

Spend the money on some tools and do it yourself. When your done you have a cam installed and new tools to keep. Just use LS1howto.com I did it for the first time and it was really easy. Just have faith, take your time, and follow the directions.

Speed Demon Motorsports in Houston, TX did my cam install (parts/labor/tuning) for $1400 out the door.
-comp cam
-comp 918 springs
-tit retainers
-harden pushrods
-full dyno tune w/LS1-edit

...and it only takes about 1 day!

quoted from mike@norris motorsports (next level performance) here in florida (altamonte springs)...he is also a sponsor here

"Our labor charge to install your supplied heads, cam, oil pump and timing set is $1500 and then $450 for the tune. A clutch install on an F-body is $375 with you supplying the parts. In some cases there has been more labor fees due to a car having longtube headers installed and the headers were welded to the y-pipe and the y-pipe to the exhaust or some combination of this. Normally most folks are smart enough to not weld things together. The first tune is generally a fee of $450 ( we are running a special pricing of $395 till the end of the year) and then retunes run $200 max depending on time spent on the dyno. the only exception to this is if you go to a forced induction setup or need to tune for nitrous it could be more due to the extra time needed."
