What the hell is flycutting? I searched but never really answered my question. Is it shaving the top of the piston? How is that done and how much is taken off? Is there a right up about it anywhere?
Flycutting is when you cut a valve relief into the top of the piston. It is typically done with a valve-shaped cutting tool and a blank cylinder head used as a guide...Mikey at Rapid Motorsports flycut my pistons with a valve relief of about .050. I don't know of any write-ups, but hopefully the experts will chime in on what the maximum amount you can safely cut on the stock LS1 pistons.
