Default Stupid question, flycutting???

What the hell is flycutting? I searched but never really answered my question. Is it shaving the top of the piston? How is that done and how much is taken off? Is there a right up about it anywhere?

Flycutting is when you cut a valve relief into the top of the piston. It is typically done with a valve-shaped cutting tool and a blank cylinder head used as a guide...Mikey at Rapid Motorsports flycut my pistons with a valve relief of about .050. I don't know of any write-ups, but hopefully the experts will chime in on what the maximum amount you can safely cut on the stock LS1 pistons.

Basically everyone out there cuts in the cylinder with the blank head for a guide. Max cut is different depending on who you ask and application. But have heard as much as .110 I am cutting mine this winter and am going to go .080. Hope that helps.
