As in with LS6 heads to make it official? No. In '01 they tossed in the LS6 intake and oil pump, along with a few other revised misc. items such as transmission hydraulics. The LS6 block thing is controvercial...I don't think there is a way to find out for sure. I've spoken with two different GM engineers that contradicted one another's statements. Conspiracy

01 and 02 do not have EGR

I've always heard that 10% of 2001 cars and 25% of 2002 cars had an LS6 block, but that doesn't do anything for performance.

I've heard it all, from all having them to none having them. After the question arising two separate times with two different GM engineers, and getting two different answers, I threw in the towell...

The F-body in 01-02 got the ls6 intake and that was it. 10% in 01 and 25% got the ls6 block. That is it. There was never and will never be an F-body from the factor with and LS6 long block unless you are Sonny (my buddy) who had GM install a ls6 long block under warranty after he spun some bearings in his ls1. He payed exstra for the ls6 but you have to remember it did not come from the factory like that.

So to make my long story shot F-Body never had a LS6 Long block in them.

You're forgetting the '01-Up oil pump...also 'LS6'

My 02 Z28 came with the LS6 block according to the casting numbers. Whats that mean? Nothing. What makes it different? It had revised oil channels or valleys or some **** that helped with the oil flow. Did it increase horsepower or torque? Nope, had no effect on that at all. Some have speculated that it was structurally stronger, but who knows, who cares.

I hydrolocked that engine, blew a nice big hole in the side of it. Insurance paid for a new engine and I had installed an LS6/ZO6 service engine out of the crate rated at 405hp. That is the ONLY way any Camaro would have an LS6 in it, there was never factory installation of that engine in the F Bod. It's a great engine, makes lots of power and pulls hard as a mule on steroids and viagra from 3000 rpm and up.

With headers, duals and a tune, mine does 389.5 hp/387 tq at the rear wheels fresh out of the crate, and about 456HP at the flywheel.

What about the GMMG '02 ZL-1? The phase 1 car came with an of the shelf LS-6. Phase 2 came with a heads and cam package on the LS-6 short block, and the phase 3 came with the 427 inch custom ls motor.

Not factory installed, but dealer installed...Those cars all started out as Z28's and SS's with LS1's before the dealer, and an aftermarket parts specialist at that, made the changes. No F Bod came from the factory with an LS6.

so does that mean that if your casting number is 12561168 even if its from a '01 WS6 its an LS6 block?

I believe so, all the F bods are basically the same car except for the body and interior trim, very little actually differentiates a camaro from a firebird, they all have the same chassis, motor, drivetrain combinations, so the chances of your ws6 having an LS6 block are there. The block is different in that it has revised oil passages, that's about it with no power addition or performance potential. It is kinda cool to know that you have it though for uniqueness sake.

If that is the casting number on your block, then its the same block used for LS6 motors, but it will not have the rest of the LS6 stuff except for the intake and a few other things. The key thing about the LS6 motor is the intake, the cam and the heads (and a little higher compression ratio), and the cam ain't all that great compared to the hundreds of aftermarket cams. The combo does pull hard though and makes some serious torque for a stock motor. The heads kick *** though...That's my thought on this, anyone else?
