TR224 w/ 1.8 rockers? CAN IT BE DONE?
Did a search and couldn't find the answer.Fixed my 10 bolt and ready for some cam action! I thought I had bent a PR some time back and replaced with hardened ones with new LS6 springs and did the Harlan Sharp 1.8's while I was in there. I didn't think I would ever do a cam in the future. With life's costs I will not do FI. Anyways, I went to Thunder Racing's website to order the cam and the notes said that because of the fast ramp rates 1.8's are not recomended. I could call them, but I wanted to ask the pros on this-- LS1 TECH! Any suggestions?

I do not think that you can do that cam with those rockers.....1.7's is all you could do I believe.
Do you have you heart set on that cam...or can you pick something on a different lobe that would work with those rockers?

I knew that springs would need to be changed. 918's most likely. My heart is not set on it but I have heard nothing but good things about that cam. Crane makes cams that will work with 1.8's, but none match the specs of the TR. Also, with out touching the head bolts--stock heads, what is the max lift before I would have to flycut? 580 ish?

Well into the .6xx lift range.

u could get 1 of the older style comp cams with less lift than the XE lobes... part # 54-418-11... 224/228-.534/.537-112... with 1.8's, ur lift would be .565/.569... check the top section of cams: http://www.compcams.com/information/...971_Page-3.jpg

Damn, almost forgot!! Does anyone know what the max lift would be with the stock heads- never touched, milled, or removed from the car? All the lift figures for the cams I have been looking at puts me between 560 to 590. Am I going to #$%^ up all of the valves? Anyone? I am not worried about lifting the valve to high heaven-- until it kisses the piston.

You could run 1.8's but:
1- need other springs
2- Need to dial in your PVC (might need to change your ICL)
in general, anything over .550 lift and 1.8's are not recomended.
except for CRANE accelerated lift rockers.

You should have asked the pros at LS1 tech before adding the rockers...
Anyway, Comp has some low lift cams that might work since you already have the rockers in, and Lunati does too in durations near a TR224.
Might want to check that out before spending any money.
