62 = ~11.31
61 = ~11.46
60 = ~11.61

Did you measure your piston out of the hole? Anything over .005" out will be to tight on your quench with .040 gaskets.

No I didn't. Tony M. at AFR said in a PM "As long as your pistons are .008 and less (out of the hole), the .040 would work well. Any more than that and you can custom order an .045 gasket from Cometic...they will make it for you." What is an "ideal" quench?

Thanks, Shawn

.045 isnt a custom order gasket, i got mine from TR.

ideal quench is .035 - .040. mine is set at .035

Aren't our pistons generally ~.007 out of the hole?

i've seen .004 - .008 as the stock range given. though if it were my own setup i'd measure it rather then go by the "stock" measurements.

i believe GM's tolerance for deck height is .010

Just out of curiousity, is there EVER a time when you have a complete/final setup in any car you own?

Just a question....

It's always best to measure. I've seen stock short blocks range from .007-.010" which in either application would put you to tight on quench. You want .035-.040 like JRP stated. Anything less will start causing detonation problems. I too ordered .045" gaskets from Thunder. Had them in 1 day.

i got my cometic gaskets .045 from TR. they were backordered. my pistons were .008 out of the hole, so that got me A .037 quench. a few people i have talked with on different forums and on the phone to said to run .040 gaskets, but ithought id be to close with a .032 quench.

I was actually .011 out of the hole.
I did have my car re-ringed by the dealer though if that could make a difference.
I would check em before you buy .040's.
