Default Cam only results 2001 A4 Vette with G5X-2

2001 Automatic C5 Coupe drove in Thursday morning From Little Rock Ar. It dyno'ed 309.7RWHP and 345.9RWTQ at 10:00AM. The torque converter was locked, but the graph doesn't look like it. Not sure why.

By 10:00PM, 12 hours later, we installed headers (no cats), and the G5X-2 only with stock LS1 Heads. After tuning was completed it was consistently putting out 394.0RWHP and 374.9RWTQ, the TC was locked for sure this time. This was a peak increase of 84.3RWHP and 29RWTQ in 12 hours with only the G5X-2 cam, headers, and tuning.

Here is the graph:

What were the idling manners like on this car?

Also, was this cam set on a 114 LSA, or is that still yet to be tested?

Nice numbers though, once again. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

i like MANY A4 owners, wnat to know about the driving characteristics. i mean i run a 230/230 111 lsa comp cam. how is it gonna idle compared to my cam? mine is barely on the edge of street/strip combo. what is the idle that it has to be set at? if under a 1000 rpms, i would be very impressed.

The cam was the normal G5X-2 on a 112, idles around 950, a little higher with the AC on. Starts and idles smooth, a slight hint of a lope, no stalling or surging.

I do know that any idle higher than 1000 gives you "cruise effect" in gear.

How do you get around this ?

I have the G5X-2 with S2 LS1 heads(no pulley, headers w/ cats, no ported TB) and made 415/385. Street wise I have no problems. I idle at about 950 with A/C off and 1100 with it on. The "cruise effect" you talk about isn't that bad, you get used to a little more pull at idle real quick. The g5X-2 is on a 112. Haven'ts seen it on anything else yet. Idles just fine, only had it die once and that was in reverse right at the beginning of a cold start. Love it!

I have a A4 as does this car too.

I would think with your numbers you have a m6.

Cruise effect in a a4 = tickets in slow zones.

Aside from drilling the TB, what can be done to help with the cam surge?

i was told that this cam is not good to put a lot of miles on due to its extreemly high lift. Is what i was told true? i mean, can this cam be driven on 40 miles a day 5 days a week and then more on weekends? lol Id like to still drive my car to and from work, streetability isnt the issue, will excessive miles cause problems due to the high lift?

Before I sold my heads, I had 3 1000 mile road trips on the cam/springs, with a total of 5k over all on the package. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

you'll probably have to change valvesprings every year.

That's the only thing preventing me from buying this cam.

Joe,
No,

The baseline runs were supposed to be locked, but it didn't take. Also remember this was a stock C5 with stock exhaust manifolds, no cats and no bolt ons other than a cold air box. A 6 speed only makes about 320rwhp on a 2001 C5 with stock manifolds, and no cats.
So the 309 number is not far off from what it should be, Locked or unlocked.

But having said that, Does it matter? Just look at the final locked number 394 rwhp and you should be impressed. Only 6 rwhp away from the magic 400 number with only G5X-2 cam and mid length headers on a stock 2001 LS1 car. No pulley, No ported TB, Full length belt with the AC belt ON, and a full exhaust system through a Borla.

Which part would look better if the before run was locked?
Thanks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

No problem, thanks Lou, but it's the extra driveline loss from the C5 is what I was wondering about, I know it's higher than a straight axle F-Body? but I don't know what the percentage is, thats why I was asking.

Joe,

Everyone says that there is more drive line loss in a C5, and we have found that it comes from the rear suspension rather than the extra "U" joints. The rubber bushings flex on acceleration and the rear suspension "Toes in". that is where the rwhp loss comes from on a C5. If the car is new, the rubber has less flex, so the wheels stay straight.

So on a new C5 the rwhp numbers do not seem to vary from an F body.
