Yes, Another cam advice needed thread
So I am looking at this and saying, HMMMM, that cam is'nt that far away, heck this would almost be easy now!!
So I have "might as well'ed myself into a cam. I drive the car daily in the summer and need a smooth idle. I want reasonable power gains but am not looking for the moon. I would prefer the power gains to be in the lower RPM's.
I am not sure how high I should be revvin' this thing with 120,000 miles on it.
I have searched and read quite a bit and have pretty much settled on the Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam. The price is right with springs ($399) and it seems like it will fit the bill for me.
Any thought on this??
Thanks in advance for the input!!!
do you want to stay small in the 220-224 range? Midrange in the 226-232 range? Or big boy cams:-P
I had the 224/224 114 cam for 2 years and was very please with it.. idle was hit or miss, but i never really took it somewhere to get tuned in idel wise. Car made good power cam only and went mid 11's at 117 in my lil A4.
I think you would like a 224ish...
112 makes a peak power like 100-200rpms before a 114 supposedly.. 114 is easier to get to idle than a 112, but if you get it tuned then a 112 should idle fine, you will hear it though, in a M6.
Futural makes some nice street cams also.. im swapping mine for a lil bigger F11ish cam from them.
Thunder makes some good cams.. ls1speed has some nice ones from comp also. They are having a GP on them right now

Futural makes killer cams from what i hear... hell they all are nice lol
goodluck, but you will have to let us know how big you wanna go.. and how small you dont wanna go:-P
I like to drive tha car as long as I can in the summer. That means cool mornings, down to 40-50 degrees. Driveabilty is #1.
I would prefer decent mileage and driveability with whatever decent gains I can get to maximize the use of the headers and intake.
I don't want race car stuff. I would rather go a little small than too big and regret it. I should feel a huge increase with whatever cam I go with compared to where I was before (293 RWHP 314 RWTQ)
If I went with the tr 224 114 will it idle smooth?? I don't mind a little lope but don't want the car shaking.
I do plan on getting it tuned after all of this
you may wanna check out those stealth cams that thunder sells. Im not sure of the specs, but i think they are around 220ish?
keep in mind, with the cam you will need new valve springs, chromemoly rods, probably a good idea to slap in a new ported oil pump and timing chain since you have such high miles.
the 224 is a nice cam.. but you will know its in the car. To me, its a nice middle cam which you know is their, but doesnt tick you off to badly. I dont wanna say you will like it, then have issues from it. But most are happy with that cam in their DD's
I wouldnt be swapping my 224 if i didnt have to pull the heads. I dont drive mine a whole lot anymore, so i just went with a 228/230 114 cam so i can have a lil fun when i do drive out
If not, i would still keep my 224
you will have some herky jerky below 40ish mph.. kinda feels like u joints going bad lol..
all of this is part of going internal.. you have some headaches, but quite a few turning head days also

220-224 on 114 is probably what you want

"well mine shaked a lil with the 224 114 cam...", "you will have some herky jerky below 40ish mph.. kinda feels like u joints going bad lol.."
I really do not want shakin' or herky jerky
Anyone that currently has the TR224 care to chime in??
Specs are:
224 220 .581 .581 116lsa
That cam has -10 degrees of valve overlap, it will idle somewhat like stock and your exhaust won't smell that bad either.

But it is on XE-R lobes and not too gentle on the valvetrain (colateral damage, I guess)
Truely a wolf in sheep clothing.
The stealth cams really are stealthy, but they have lots of lift so make sure you get at least some 918 springs or some PRC duals.
You have got to be kidding me.
Many people have been very happy with the cam jrp suggested. Even really sensitive people.
Any thoughts or comments?
gt2-5 222/222 .566/.566 112 LSA.
This looks like a good cam for me?? A little more aggressive than the TR220 but not as aggressive as the TR224, Plus more overall performance than a gt2-3
Any thoughts??

Not high. Depending.
You want decent low end power but at least as much for reliability and durability. Go Comp 218/224 @ 114LSA. You can go to their Extreme lift stuff -BUT- at 120k, your rockers/lifters are probably on their last legs (especially if you drive yer car like most of us do). The stock units are barely capable. There are good, "inexpensive" ($700) rockers available (you could go 1.8 to relieve stresses on the valvetrain but DO NOT GO above .545 lift @ 1.7:1 ratio). These would guarantee peace-of-mind.
Without a doubt, while you're in there, do the Comp R lifters (Mandatory @ 120k to have any life left on valvetrain), double-roller timing chain(!!) and ported oil pump(!!). If you do not do the lifters and oil pump: Don't bother at all. You'll just be building a time-bomb. The rockers, as noted, are definitely a smart investment.
The Comp 218/224 won't shake (unless you go 112LSA) and will give decent power 2k-6k rpms. There are numerous options for grinding these cams now, too. How you position the valve opening/closing events (BTDC, etc) can seriously affect the cam's performance. The 218/224 off-the-shelf is an adequate piece, however.
2- a double roller is overkill, just get an LS2 chain (35$) and you'll be more than happy. Not to ention no need tochange crank/cam sprocket.
3- Yes, agree on the oil pump.

Where can I find the GP for LS1Speed.com for their camshafts?
