Default 5.3 bored to 5.7??

Has anyone ever heard of boring a 5.3 .125" to make a 5.7. I read about someone doing it, but i can't remember where. Does anyone know if this would work for a street engine? Would you have to hard block it?

For 600 bucks you can have a new LS1 block. I would go that route before I would consider the option you are thinking.

I was told you can only bore the 5.3 truck blocks .125 over because it's an iron block. I had never heard of boring anything that far without sleeving it but the truck guys say it works fine for stroking a 5.3/325 out to a 6.3/383 with a 4" crank stroke.

Those prices are awsome. They are half the price of Scrooge and Dicky. I'd rather have the LS6 for $800.

Default Aluminum 5.3

I machined a 5.3 block for MID sleeves a while back. It appears what GM did was to install a heavier wall sleeve in the 5.7 block casting to reduce the bore size and create the 5.3. In other words, yes you should be able to bore the engine to the same bore size as the 5.7 block.

The 4.8 and the 5.3 are both cast iron, aluminum head engines. Some select 03 5.3L were cast from 319-T5 aluminum.

I wasn't aware that the 5.3L cast iron blocks were sleeved, only the very few 03 5.3L aluminum blocks were sleeved in the same way that the rest of the Gen III aluminum blocks were cast. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes I know that, but what cast iron block has sleeves and what application was it used in. This is what I thought to by false. Is it a block only sold aftermarket? If so, where do you get it?
