It could be false knock from banging exhaust or suspension parts. Put some race gas in and see if it goes away. If it does it means that he needs to lower his spark advance b/c that's true knock.

Race gas is a nice way to kill the O2 sensors and destroy the cats.

What else has been done to the car?

I didn't mean to run pure race gas...just adding some to raise the octane a little bit.

Lead is lead. Put enough into the exhaust and bye bye O2's and cats.

A good octane booster might be a safer choice. Ultimately, the higher octane like you suggested might help diagnose the problem. There might be a custom tune that is causing so much grief...(too much timing). Or there is excessive carbon buildup which could possibly be alleviated by some top engine cleaner.

Mine pulls 4 degrees at WOT...They say that sometimes the springs can be noisy and the sensors will pick it up... according to Comp. I think mine is problems with a lifter...I will find out in a couple of weeks

i thought 100/103 octane race fuel is unleaded?

did your friend put an aftermarket maf on the car? some of those have been known to do some messed up things.

I guess "race" is a relative term.

If you can get it at the pump, then I wouldn't call it race gas. eg Sunoco 100

I had 4KR also under WOT. Don't have it anymore but not sure what was causing it. Got my computer tuned which was needed cause it was running a little lean 14.0 at WOT. And I added a 160 thermostat. Before I did anything I would not have KR if I would get on it while it was not up to normal temp. I think the thermostat helped the most.

5-8 gallons of leaded fuel won't harm a thing. Done that a half dozen times.

How many O2's or cats have you replaced in your car?

Who runs cats anymore? that's yesteryear!
100 unleaded fuel should do the trick.

Certain Union 76 stations sell 100 Octane unleaded, they usually keep it in the back in drums! Mix it equally with 92 and you will get 96 Octane.

Octane is not the only way to get rid of knock. I wanted to get rid of knock all together. High dollar octane may work at the track, but like the rest of you, my car sees WOT quite often on the street.

If everything is working fine, then there's just too much timing in it.

I have a question to about KR, occasionally at WOT I am seeing 8.5 degrees of KR but it only happens maybe 1 out of 5 WOT runs. Sometimes it's there and sometimes its not???? Is this false knock??? I have backed off the timing to 12 degrees and it still shows up???? By the way, I am not hearing anything when I am seeing the KR.

I have a 408 iron block with JE pistons, Callies crank, Oliver rods, dual springs with comp lifters, hardened push rods, ect...yada yada. I have tried just about everything and I can't get rid of the KR!!!!

Try raising your dynamic cylinder air from 0.1 to 0.2g/cyl. Is the knock audible when u stick ur head out on a quiet road?
