Question Stock pushrods and LS6 cam

Just wanted to see how many of you are running stock pushrods with an LS6 cam. I know you are supposed to run a longer pushrod, but I know of a few people that are still running stock pushrods.

Longer pushrods with a LS6 cam are not necessary.

The 02+ LS6 cam has a smaller base circle, why wouldn't you want to use a longer push rod in order to keep the geometry correct?

I figured it out about a year ago so I dont remember the exact numbers, between the stock PR and longer Pr, 1 would be a little short and 1 would be a little long, it was closer with the stock PR and I felt that shorter was better than longer, just my thoughts

the difference is .035. If you install 7.40 (aftermarket stock) the diff will be .015.
If you use stock LS1 7.38, the diff will be ~.035
Ideally 7.420 should be your p-rod length.

If you have 2002-2004 LS6 heads with stock valves, I believe the valve stems are slightly longer and match the smaller baseline of the cam.

I used stock pushrods with the 02 LS6 cam in one of my cars. It was fine.

depends on the size of the cam. I kept stock ones with my FM11. I've bounced the limiter a couple of times on accident no probs yet. I think it's if the cam is over .600 lift you want hardened ones. Might try a search for that one.

I agree! stock pushrods do get the job done, but if a guy ever wanted to upgrade, hardened pushrods are great.
