Default So Im walking around autozone.....

And just happen to pass by the oil. I figure what the hell might as well look at the castrol oil. Well I pull out a couple quarts of castrol syntec 0w30 and look on the back. Sure enough it says made in germany. So I grab seven of them and they all say made in germany. I go to pay for them and they charge me less than $30 for 7 quarts. I live in south Texas and it gets pretty hot down here. Is it ok to use this oil? And what is the best oil filter to buy? thanks

I'm using a K&N now but usually use Wix. You can do a search if you want to learn more about them.

Yeah, dont worry about the 0w rating. Thats simply because it has a low temperature pour point. Its going to be thicker than M1 5w30 at the rest of the normal temperatures it sees. Also, autozone was running a special this week here, $4.00 a quart for castrol... Maybe thats what you found? I think its normally $5+.

fram IS junk but... a higher oil pressure means MORE restriction... Remember starting your car in the very cold and the pressure is SKY HIGH!

imagine a car with like 2-3psi of oil pressure. Maybe an old 70's ford pickupv8 with bazillion miles. The car has no oil pressure because the bearings and tolerances are so wide there is no backpressure to the oil pump.. its hard to keep those wide open spaces filled with oil!

add..... Im very happy to see people making educated decisions about oil filters!
Although, the K&N does NOT flow more, if you have read the new tests at www.bobistheoilguy.com
Purolator premium plus is my favorite trade off for flow/filtering, it does both very well!
