Default Dangers of low low miles?

I'm looking at picking up a car next weekend that has only 9,000 miles on it, and it's a 2001. Do any of your guru's see any danger from a car this old not being run very often? If so, what are some of the symptoms I should be looking for?

Thanks a lot.

I dont see any real problems with it,at least 2K a year. Even if it was stored outside that shouldn't pose a problem, if it was garaged I definitly would'nt worry about it, my shop does ET's (about 30 a day) and we see a lot of cars that people are keeping low miles on,Vettes/Viper's/Porches etc. They bring them in after sitting for months and they run on the dyno just fine and pass emmisions just fine also.

hey Cappie, if you're so wary of a low mileage car....when you buy the car, we can swap motors, rear ends, and transmissions if you have an m6. that way you won't have to worry about it

I usually pretty cautious when I see a 4 year old car with very little miles. There are ways (that i wont state) to not add up the miles and the car drives fine. I would at least get a car fax on it.

The drivetrain is not the area to worry about with low low miles unless the car is 10+ years old. If stored outside in an area that gets cold and has alot of precipitation, the tires can start to dry-rot. I had this happen to when I sold my grandpa's 99 Blazer with 23k on it for him. It was stored outside since 99, and the tires were the original ones, and one of them started to dry rot a little. I managed to sell it before it got any worse though.

very true, seen this many times even a dealership that does it ... sometimes it was in the body shop longer than the road, seen this too ... just check everything out and don't let low miles throw you off from makin sure everything is in order

good luck with the new ride
