I think the problem is the amount of time that has passed since you first inquired. Last year NOBODY was getting 400RWHP out of H&C cars, and very radical cams were the only way to get power. Now it's very common to get much higher horsepower from H&C setups, but at the expense of idle quality. Camshaft technology has come far enough now, to allow people to build 400+rwhp LS1's with a relatively mild cam, through factory cats! I know you probably won't belive this, so feel free to call me, like I said, I'll hold the phone out the window, or I can videotape with sound. Whatever it takes to convince you is ok with me.

I would like to hear one with updated technology that has over 400 RWHP. Not a Z06 though, a H/C kit on a 1998-2002 F-Body.
It's a little late for me now anyway since I have my ARE 436, but I'd still like to see/hear one.

Thanks

Also, I thought I'd ask, how much power is your 436 putting down, Quickin?

ARE (NICK) had a 242/242 .610/.610 114 lsa cam put in. A tad large.
Mike Norris knew before he even ran the motor that I was going to have a fuel pressure issue.
He built the car, and on the first dyno run it pulled 480 RWHP just before reaching 5000 rpm, when the fuel pressure dropped 3 psi. Right after it passed 5000 rpm it quickly dropped 10 psi, he aborted the run.
I started a thread to take guesses what my total RWHP will be after the new pump is installed, it seems to be thought that I will pull about 515 RWHP. I just hope I'm gonna like the idle, if not, out comes that cam and in with a more milder one.

Sounds like a nice ride Quicken!

I'll try to get some footage with sound of our different cars idling, and get them posted on our website for everybody to see. I'll post a thread when we have something available.

Snaksknnr - Thanks for the kind words, sounds like your enjoying your car!, make sure to let us know when you get some track times!

Only place I've heard of was Winnipeg Wheel.

I'm in North Carolina, it sure would be nice to find somewherein North or South Carolina to do this!

What's the name of the place in S. Carolina?

I don't get it? Why all the concern about stock idle?? Take any NA motor and you can increase it's performance maximizing valve timing events, correct?? Doesn't this usually reduce idle quality? So are we looking for good (not great) performance ? I'm not trying to be a smarta** I really don't understand this mindset.

I think it's rather gay. I sat in a 2002 Vette that had a 422 with a pretty radical cam in it and without ANY exageration you couldn't make out what kind of car was behind you through the rear or side view mirrors because the car shook that much. Who wants to take a girl out in something like that? Not me, it would be kind of embarrassing.
I was in search of high HP/TQ without having that kind of idle, so it took me to a 436 stroker. Believe me, i would have gladly saved about $10,000 and went with a H/C kit but I was told by EVERYONE that I was dreaming.

Quickin- I see it now. I think it's more of a generational thing. I was born way back in 1955 and into (street) racing in the late 60s early 70s. Back then a good lope was great.I guess girls expected the car to shake ( kinda like subs).I'd love to build a stroker in the future- with a big solid roller, very lopey
Thanks! Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

However, my friends father has a CRAZY '69 Camaro that barely idles at all. It's dynoed 610 RWHP and runs in the 9's. It's always on a trailer but can drive around all day on the street if he wanted to. Occasionally he gave us rides down the back roads of Cape Coral, FL when we were in high school. That was very cool. When I say that car shook from the idle, I mean IT SHOOK! It was sooooo damn quick. He hit the gas and it would red line in what seemed like a tenth of 1 second.

Going to 315 Nittos will not help you with the amount of power youre putting down. 315's are only 40mm wider than 275's. 40mm = 4cm = 1.6", which will not miraculously give you more grip. I'm at 340rwhp and I spin my 315 Nittos like crazy with no problem. I have no idea what I'll do when I get my H/C/I installed next week

I've always wondered about cars like the F1 McLaren or the Vipers, or the high HP Lambo's, etc, what do they do for traction on the street? Don't they have 315 regular radials? Or do they simply have no prayer in using the power they have as well.

Thats why many exotics like the 911TT or Lambo go to AWD because its just simply too much power for 2 wheels to handle. The Viper uses a 335 tire I believe, but also, if youve read any article on one, the writer always points out the ability to break loose at almost any speed. Another thing is that our F-bodies chassis was not meant to handle all that power and thats why its so hard to contain the power. Even Corvettes are already built better, they sit lower and squat under acceleration. My friend with a 409/juiced engine in his C4 didnt have to do any suspension mods and still pulls off 1.5x 60's on DR's, try doing that on a stock F-body suspension, no way in hell. Exotics and all those high hp cars are already built for that sole purpose and behave different under throttle, giving them the ability to hook better.

Go with the 315 Nitto's or just stay with 275 stock sized Nitto's?
I am in FL and could get another set of rims with some ET's for the nice weather days, which is 90% of the time down here. ET's would do great on the street, right?

ET's suck for handling, you can kiss your tight cornering good bye. I use 315 Nittos because thats the best tires out there for now. I'm hard on my car and I'm still able to get about 10K miles out of the Nittos with about 2-3 trips to the track every year. I've used Kuhmo Road Racing tires and those are a little stickier but they wear out about twice as fast as Nittos. You have to evaluate what you use your car for most. Maybe just stick with your current tires and pick up a set of ET's mounted on another set of rims for the track.
