Default 500 rwhp from 370 iron block N/A?

Is it possible to have a 370 iron block put down 500 rwhp N/A? I have been looking around at a new engine project and see this block crop up every now and then. I plan on spraying so the iron block is ok with me. I also do not really want to drop crazy cash on an aluminum block. So the block would get a full treatment of forged internals, worked heads and cam ect...... The car is not going to be a full out strip car but one that will run on the weekends. I want to be able to drive around and not fell like I am at the staging at the strip.

It's possible with a pretty radical setup. The have been 500+rwhp dynos with 346's so it can be done with 370. I'm curious why you would just go with a 408 iron block? They've been putting down around 550+ to the wheels lately.

I am thinking about the project as a whole and looking at the total costs. I have been finding that the 346 and 370 are around the same cost when you take into consideration of forged internals. My idea was the 370 with ls6 heads that have been worked, cam, 90mm lsx. 90mm tb and 42lbs injectors. I am looking to get the whole thing don for 10-12k. That 10-12k will also include the headers and cutouts.

I thought that you would be able to get a complete 408 long block for that cost. Maybe I'm wrong.

You might be able to but I have just not found anything local that the cost of the 370 iron and a 408 iron that are close. I am seeing $750.00 difference in price. At 500rwhp and 200 shot ontop of the that will be more than enough right now. If it was only a couple hundred difference then it would not bother me but 750 is enough for me to look at the 370 option. If my current setup can put down 443 rwhp and be driven every day if I wanted to then I do not see why a 370 could not make 500 rwhp or real close.

i thnk it can be done, want be a very tame daily driver.. something like t-rex sized cam or g5x3 might get her done with some afr's and fast 90 intake.

The difference is in the crank shaft.
A 750 dollar difference means your buying a Eagle crank.
It would be closer to 1500-2000 is you were using a Callies/Launti crank.
IMHO your not gonna make much more power using the 408, maybe 10-15 ponies, which to some is worth it, including myself.
Either way you have a 4.030 bore and that helps the volume of air through the heads. With a 408 you can have the same cam be more streetable, or a bigger cam for added power.
You would make more power and torque through the RPM band as well.
Sure you can make 500 HP with a 370 as some are making those numbers with a 346. Just make sure you get OVER 11:1 compression, use a top notch set of heads. Get all the bolton's, with a very free flowing exhaust, and the right cam. After that it's in Jeremy's hands to make the power and make it streetable.

I figure that we will have compression between 11.0-11.5:1. The heads are going to be the key I am sure. I am not going to skimp on that part at all. An extra 20 hp for an additional 1500-2000 is just a bit more than the budget will allow. If all goes right this motor will be going into a C5 and will also be getting 200 shot to make up any loss of hp/tq from being a smaller displacement motor. Does anyone have any idea of the kind of valve size or flow numbers that I need to be looking at? Jeremy thinks that the smallest cam would be something in the GX5 size so if you need a refference point you should use that cam.

I am running an APE 370 with Patriot 59 cc heads(setup is around 11.1:1). I put down around 400 rwhp on APE's Mustang Dyno. My cam is a 238/244 114. It is a very streetable combination. This is with me running stock pulley, LS1 intake, stock throttlebody, and stock water pump. This was all through my TSP Rumbler and Hooker Long Tubes. I am giving up a good amount of power running the stock intake and TB as compared to a FAST 90/90 setup.

500 rwhp on a dynojet should be very doable with a very good set of heads, full boltons, and a slightly bigger cam.

Keep in mind I would be spraying the motor so the internal will need to be able to stand up to 200-250 shot. I am not sure if the slp package is forged internals.

What alot od people dont realize is that the bore size help HP more then the stroke size.
The 402 is a 4" stroke and 4.00 bore.
The 370 is a stock stroke at 3.622 with a 4.030 bore.
The 408 is a 4" stroke with a 4.030 bore.
If this is a NA motor dont be scared to go with a 4.040+ bore size maybe even 4.045 which will help a little more.
I would really suggest you get a top notch set of heads as you said before and have the head porter design a cam for the best power combo.
I agree to make big HP in the higher RPM range a G5X3 would be in the smaller groupe of cams.
Maybe a 244/248 or something in that area would work, but again all combo's are different and the head ported would be a better person to suggest and design a cam.

Nevermind my last post about going with a bigger bore.
You can still do it but I personially wouldn't go bigger then a 4.040 bore if spraying that much.
Not saying it isn't possible as there are those that do it I'm just not one of them.

You can easily put down the 500 RWHP with the right peripherals and a hydraulic roller a little bigger than average and good heads. We've even had one 346 that was there so the iron 370 with the bigger bore would be easier.
