Default Do heads or not?

Here's the deal. Current mods are in the sig, but I have the following, waiting to go in: FMS F-14 232/234 .598/.598 112, PRC Spring Kit, LS6 Oil Pump, LS2 Timing Chain, and a few other smaller items.

Problem is that I have about a grand just burning a hole in my pocket. Do I throw in a set of 3.90/4.10 gears now, or scrape up another grand and do heads at the same time I do the cam? Modding-wise, I should probably do the gears first, but it would also make sense to do the heads at the same time as the cam... already looked into getting a bare set with valves as I have the rest.

Any opinions?

Mike

Go heads...your car is an M6 so you can kind of make up for the lack of gearing for the time being.

Dont buy gears for a 10 bolt with your mods, youll have to buy a 12 bolt soon enough anyway. Choose your ratio then. Id say get the heads... your car may dog a little down low, but you should really look into a 12 bolt as soon as possible.

heads all the way!! u will thank yourself for doing the heads at the same time as the cam. the cam swap is much more fun with the heads off.....a lot easier too u wont have to worry about lifters fallin. plus, the heads and cam will compliment each other a lot more than the cam with your stock heads. i say get all your valvetrain knocked out in one install. then just take it easy on your drivetrain til u have money to upgrade it.

Heads are the key to making power, so I recommend purchasing a good set.

ill be putting in the same cam/springs/chain/pump about the same week as you lol.. im putting in a gear with it cause i have stock 3.23's now, but if i could afford like some bare patriot heads or something cheaper like that i would prolly go ahead and do it, even tho my dream set would be afr's. i may do some mild port work to my stock heads, dont count this idea out.. cheap and fairly simple ive been told... maybe this will hold me over till i get some afr's and a fast 90.

Thanks guys... looks like it will be heads.

Sam,
Good to hear from you. Thanks for the offer on the heads, but the cams a little big for the 2.055 valve and shaved 30. I see you've got the T/A running pretty good. I was pretty much out of the loop for a while, but trying to get back in. I sure I'll run into you somewhere this spring/summer.

LS1_Pnytamr,
I went with the 112, as I have an M6 and was looking for a bit more lope and slightly lower peak rpm. Also, I'm not running that big of a shot, so N02 compatability was not a deciding factor. Plus from my understanding anything under 150 doesnt make much of a difference.
