Default Would you believe A SOHC LS1 ??

I was reading the Feb 05 issue of Camaro Performers and on page 91, there is a little article with a pick of a LS1 with SOHC and get this a Magnacharger on top of it.

Done by Pete Aardema from Escondido Cali.

Not much details except the pick but I'll be damned, I think I've seen it all.

A nice write on this is warranted.

As long as it's faster than Ford's SOHC, that's fine. Haha...

I'd love to see a picture. I can imagine a 4-valve sohc, with small pushrods in the head, that wouldn't have much bigger packaging than the current heads. However, with 4 valves and no pushrods blocking the ports, it would probably breath rather well.

It just doesnt seem physically possible to me to convert a pushrod engine into an overhead cam and still use the same engine. How the heck would you do something like that?

Reminds me of the 24 valve LT1 heads I saw in a magezine last Thursday. Pretty cool

That is what I would call innovative.
I wonder how reliable it would be and how much more efficient?

Also what cam profiles do you think he is using?

It boggles the mind lol. I still don't understand how it's physically possible. What did he do with all the empty space, like where the cam used to be? ARGH! My brain hurts!

I remember seeing **** like that in old hot rods. They did it back in the 60's.

It looks like it still has rockers...running off the cam directly. That belt is way exposed...

The belts is just as exposed as it is for superchargers. Anyway, the engine bay of a C5 stays pretty damn clean.

ohc is such a waste of time its not even funny. one of the great things about ls1s is the simplicity of a proven design(pushrod) why throw that away with that garbage?

I was hoping an SOHC or DOHC LSx would be..well...cleaner. My car actually turned its nose up and drove away when it saw that ugly engine. Now I have to run after it and bringer it back...
