This topic, like so many others, was pounded into mush on another thread recently. The only agreement was that almost everyone disagreed, which is predictable. I run Royal Purple Racing 11 in my 622 BBC and various synthetics such as Valvoline and Mobil1 in my SS, but I'm always open to a better idea.

Sounds too good to be true for some reason. But then again, Im no chemist. Sure would be nice if it lived up to it's claims.

the new mercedes use Mobile 0w40 and they change it roughly every 8-10k basically whenever the oil quality monitor tells them to.

95 and newer 911s and all boxster is 0-40 mobile 15k between oil changes oil filters at 30k. We recomned ever 7500 or once a year since no ne drives em and they just sit and rot. Cayanne s and turbo is 0-40 with a 20k oil/filter interval we say once a year or 10k miles screw the oil life moniter.

Mobil one works fine. Took my heads off with 56k on her and it was clean and looked great.

I've been happy with the results for Mobil 1. I've been using it for about 15 years now.

many people have run mobil 1 and still do and have great results with it. I have run it and believe it to be quality oil. I recently changed my oil and put in mobil 1 EP since its basically the original mobil 1 with alot more cleansing agents and additives in it based on what mobil says about it on their site.

Exactly which makes me think... hmmm... probably just mobil one getting more open about the mileage intervals of their oils. Even though it's been the same for the most part.

I'm using 5w30 and will be switching to 0w40 and will still change it every 3k.

That 3000 mile oil change is with Mobil1??

Do you realize that there are 100's of oil anaylsis done saying you are throwing money away? That someone could take your "bad" oil and run it in their car for at least another 3000 miles?

Visit bobistheoilguy forums and you could learn some valuable facts about oil change intervals. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

I've know guys to do this run it for 3000 in their car and then put it into their truck or whatever other vehicle they have and run it 3000 in that.

seems like too much effort to me. seems like we have 3 kinds, those that run a regular dyno-based oil for 15-20,000 miles or more, those that run good oil and change it too often, and those that change it when necessary and not before. the last kind doesn't have a problem with their cars to speak of. the second spends a bit more than they should (myself included). and the first will be getting motors replaced. i saw a guy get a diesel motor replaced came back 29,000 miles later and had a rod knocking, the orignal oil and filter still in the motor, when asked if he changed or checked the oil owner said "it had oil in it when i got it". needless to say the 36000 mile warranty on the replacement motor was void and he payed for a new diesel motor to be installed.

He's not kidding. He doesn't trust my advice, which is ok since I don't plan on giving him any.

Does any one see any problems in switching to Mobil 1 Synth. with a motor that has 80,000 miles on it?

I don't think that he doesn't want to trust your advice Patman, I think that maybe he just doesn't like what you have to say {whether it's the truth or not}.

Seriously, Patman doesn't just go around pulling stuff out of the air. Pretty much everything that I've seen him write down has been backed-up by a crap load of data. Can he be wrong, yea,, but I would trust him alot faster than most. Just go to bobistheoilguy's website. That site is worth a fortune in oil related knowledge.

BTW, if you were serious,,, why couldn't you just ignore Patman rather than basically calling him out? If you were playing around, I apologize for the assumptions.
