question about milling AFR heads with F13 cam

Blake, I pulled my valves and checked the size, they are 2.02" and 1.575". I was told they were 2.05's but this might work to my advantage.

i got an email back from allan and he said with the afr heads, if we checked it out then they should beable to clear with the f13 cam with the heads milled .040 but he said to ask tony about that if it would effect the flow of the heads, im gonna run them out of the box and then when i go a 90/90 set up ill prob port match and mill

Take this FWIW.....I just checked my F13 (113+2) with stock heads, 2.00/1.55 valves and .060" MLS gasket and had .110" Intake and .130" Exhaust. The 112+4 version will probably be .020" tighter on the intake side.

Also, the valve dia. between 2.05 and 2.02 isn't going to affect the clearance more than .005" max. Probably lose around .008"-.010" going from a 2.00 to a 2.05 valve.

Why dont you bolt them on un-milled, check your clearance, and based on the final figures decide how much more (if any) you can mill them to raise the CR....Thats the best approach....no matter what ANYONE says, that's what needs to be done anyway if you want to cover your butt and make sure you dont have any P to V issues when your hammering this thing at 7K.

Tony, that is exactly what I plan to do. This way I can determine how much to mill them when I decide to. Plus, like you said, I can cover myself and make sure I dont have any issues.

How would I go about checking P-V clearance? Is there any write up on how to do this? a certain tool? I havent really heard much about it until recently

Guys...

You cant learn how to properly check P to V on the thread of one of these forums....plus you will need a few basic engine tools. I would imagine somewhere in the "search" world you could find some threads that have already hit this topic hot and heavy and could probably offer you some decent insight on how to get it done.....barring that, order a "how to" engine book from Jegs, Summit, or your local parts house. Educate yourself....its not that difficult with some patience, a decent grasp of how an engine operates, and a few tools/supplies you might have to round up.

Bribe one of your buddies that might have done it before...
