Default new heads, now searching for new cam

well now that I have my new heads on, I was thinking about upping my cam size. My heads are Absolute Speed 5.7 stg 2 milled .030 and I'm not sure what size cam I can go with. My buddy has an F14 in his car and I really like it, but since I've been reading, I've noticed some question as to whether I will have reasonable P-V clearance. I want something in the range of the F14. If the F14 will work I'll do it.

Maybe try a search on flycutting the pistons for that cam.

the problem is this is my daily driver and I really can't afford to be out of a car for an extended amount of time. Also the current cam in the car is a 224/230 112 LSA .567/.573 lift

What power did you get out of that cam with those heads? I would guess maybe something around a 230/232 .595/.598 112 plus a little timing maybe 2-4 degrees. The motor will have to come back out for flycutting, and the F14 you'll need dual springs if you don't have them already.

If no one knows the answer about the F14 with milled heads, then it looks like you will have to check the P to V clearence. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...lled+clearence

"Even though this really only works for the cam that you currently have in the car, you can do a "valve drop" check first before you buy the new cam or pull anything apart and compare that to the recommended amount for the cam you are considering. That will at least get you in the ball park. The G5X3 for example requires .200"-.210" of valve drop with the piston at TDC for it to clear. Regardless, you still need to check it once it's in the motor though."

I want to avoid flycutting. I WANT a f14, but if i can upgrade to anything bigger than what I have now, I will. My goal is 450-470rwhp with all the bolt ons and heads and cam.

I appreciate the response, but I need 100% assurance that whatever cam I do choose will work, otherwise my engine will take a real long vacation.
The research I've done so far makes it sound like it won't fit, but who knows you may be right. Bump to the top

i would call either absolute or futral and ask them what size you could run.i'm sure both places have had experience with milled heads and would know the biggest cam possible without clearance issues.

Is absolute speed still around? Anyone know how to get in contact with them??

don't get a cam because it worked well in a buddy's car. This is your car. Your heads are probably different.

All these cams are great for stock headed cars, as that was probably what they were designed for.

Get a cam custom built to your heads. That way you can maximize your setup without flycutting and have the car run how you want it to ruin.

Talk to EDC or CStraub on this board about getting a custom cam made for your application. Prices for example are $450 from EDC, cam custom made and to your door.

well I've sent PM's to both and I havent heard back from either. I ran a 12.4 at 112 on thurs. and the car is getting tuned this week so I should run better next week, but I would like to/should be in 11s with a H/C car and this cam just isnt enough. I done search after search after search and still no good info.

Wow, that car must really need a tune as those numbers seem really poor. I just bought the exact same heads 5.7L Absolute Speed Stage 2 heads milled .02 w/63cc chambers.and the previous owner made 432/400 through a 12 bolt & 4.10's with just a TR224 and he went 11.66@119. My choice for a cam was clear, I got a TR224 to go with the heads No flycutting, and expected good driveability and idle with a good tune...plus that cam is pretty easy on the valvetrain too, only hvaing a 563 lift.

You will probably see like 450rwhp with the F13, but I said it before and i'll say it again, IMO, from what i have seen and read, the best all around cam is still a TR224.

If I eventually want more on top of that I'll just add N20 at that point.

I agree, but I don't have an ls6 intake, ported TB, 4.10s,pulley, or a tune. the intake(or lack thereof) as well as no 4.10s is killing me I know. I think with all these things I will be in the land of 11s, close to an 11.6
