Default --Truck Parts Question--

I just bought a 2003 SCSB 4.8 5-Speed Silverado.

I am told by the LS1 "expert" at the dealership that there is a hot cam for this truck (is it the same as the one for all the LS1's?) and that the Z06 cam will also work (is that the same cam or a different one)?

Who carries these cam's and have they been tested on any trucks yet?

Also:

He said something about the Z06 intake manifold mounting up to my engine as well, is this true? Would this be a good choice for a manifold? Where is the best place to get one?

Thank's for readin, and for your replies. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

The Hotcam that he's referring to is the same one that's been out for quite a while. I know of a guy locally that has one in his 5.3L. It would be a CHUNKER in a 4.8L! I DO NOT recommend going with a "ZO6" (LS6) cam because they're designed with upper-RPM HP in mind. My friend tried an '01 LS6 cam in his 5.3, and he lost a LOT of bottom-end torque. Once he raised the rev limiter with the Hypertech Programmer, it would pull like crazy. He installed a set of 4.10's just to get some kind of pulling power down low.

As for intake manifolds, the one you have will work just fine. You have the advantage of having room under the hood. With the f-bodies and C5's, we have to have an intake manifold that will clear under the cowl. I would recommend that you keep the stock truck intake.

Give me a call here at the shop if you'd like to discuss your options with modding the truck. We can get any cam custom-ground direct from Comp Cams. Just let me know what your goals are with the truck, how high you're wanting to rev it, where you're wanting your power, how much of a lope you want/can stand, etc. (i.e. all top-end, nice bottom-end and mid-range, etc.). Arizona Speed & Marine makes a GREAT set of headers for the trucks, so I'll check on getting you a set.

Thanks for the help, I'll be giving you a call today or tomorrow to discuss the options. When you say "Chunker" I take it thats a bad thing? I'm new to this forum and am a bit unfamiliar with this term, having never heard it used to describe a cam before.

Thanks.

LOL When I say chunker, I mean that it's going to lope pretty hard. Feel free to give me a call, and we'll discuss your plans for your truck.
