Default oil presure problem after h/c swap

when i start the car when its cold it makes 45pis at idle. after it warms up it goes down to 30psi after driving it a bit sitting at a light it will be on top of the lil red bars at like 5psi but driving it at 1500rpm iits at 30psi when i rev it to redline it goes like 45psi. why when im sitting at a light will it drop down to liek 5psi thenthe check gauge light comes on

I'd guess the cam bearings got dinged up during the cam swap, that would account for the reduced pressure.

Did you swap the pump when you did the cam? What was the pressue before, how many miles on it?

if you aren't carefull when you put the oil pump back on you can slice a chunk out of the o-ring. Been there and done that. I had the exact same problems you are experiancing and sure enough. When I took the pump back off a chunk was missing out of the o-ring!

I'd say most likely a problem with the o ring/pump install.

Didn't know the spacer could do that, good info. Thanks and keep us posted.

That sucks! I was reading the thread and was gonna say I wouldn't put much trust in the stock gauge, but apparently it was working for you. Rod bearing, I take it?
