The rotating assembly will be atleast $2k, block work will be roughly $500, mainstuds, headstuds, a 238/240 or better cam, a good set of heads, and assembly. $5500 or better depending on parts for the long block.

I was also interested in doing the same thing (although not as crazy... I still need driveability
) JRP, you think it would be better to go with a 408? Can you break it down into pricing and places that could provide these? I think this could really help the both of us.

The only dif between the 383 and the 408 is the pistons and the block. You go from a 3.905 piston to a 4.03 pistons. The crank and the rods are the same. You have to use an iron 6.0 to keep the price down. Unless you want to resleave an LS2 or LS1 witch will cost big $$$$$.
YOu also have to add 140-200 for boring the block instead of just a power hone.

You don't have to resleave the LS2 block to get to 402 or 408 cubes. Stock bore is 4.00, so 4x4 = 402 and 4.030 = 408. Look @ the prices of the shortblocks that people are putting out with this, just short of 4K buck for the shortblocks, 402, about 500 more than an iron block, which = cost of the block and a little bit of a premium since LS2 stuff is still new. Good heads and cam would probably push the whole thing close to 6500 or 7000. Maybe more or less depending on how much you either have done, source yourself, or do yourself.
