One lifter and one motor break-in Q
Stock lifters. What can they handle? Lift/duration wise?
Putting a 248/254 629/622 113 in my 402. Lifter recommendations welcome.
Also, I read that you shouldn't break in a new motor with headers. Or was that with coated headers?? I have kooks stainless here for the new motor, and am not sure if I need to find some stock manifolds for break-in.
Thanks!!

thats a pretty large cam for stock lifters
comp r's sound like somthing you need, but you have to run adjustable rockers with them to set the correct preload. comp 850's are good OEM replacements that dont require adjustable rockers. i'm not sure about them being able to handle that cam or not
as for the headers/break-in thing, i've never heard of that, EVER. i see NO way for it to would hurt anything. plus it would be a pain to swap them around like that.

plus the stockers should probably be replaced anyway , comp 850's are around 200 bux (have some in my motor), and comp r's are around 220 i think. as for adjustable rockers, you will need to research that yerself lol
jesel makes an awesome set of shaft rockers, but they are expensive. patriot also makes a set of shaft rockers that are not as pricey, but do not clear stock valvecovers (you will need valvecover spacers with them). not sure if the jesel's will clear or not. when you shim the valvecovers, you may also need longer sparkplug wires to reach there are also a bunch of good adjustable roller-tip aluminum individual rockers as well.

I have seen a ton of rockers. I was going to run the stockers, but that may not work out. lol
I figured that cam might be too big for stock lifters. Damn. Anyone know about the 850's and what they can handle?

My ceramic coated FlowTech headers came with a notice that they should not be used to break in a motor (or cam?). I assume that it was deemed undesirable to get the coating real hot the first time out rather than "baking" it a few times first.
I don't see why there would be any problem using stainless (uncoated) headers.
