Need help on choosing a cam, and install??
Hi guys, i am new to this site, and i was needing some help. I dont daily drive my car, and i want better peformance out of it. I am looking to do a cam, long tube headers, and a 12 bolt rearend with 4.10 gears. I am looking at the thunder racing 224/224 114 lsa cam, and hooker long tube headers. First off, i read the tech article on how to install the cam, i think i can do it, but do i need it tuned, my car is a 6 speed, 02 ss? And do you reccomend this cam, i would like a nice lope, but nothing real crazy, and i dont want to have to tralior my car. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't go with a TR224 on 114 LSA on a non daily driver. Get something bigger. Like a F13, F14, or G5X2. You will be totally satisfied.
The TR224 lobes well. You can hear it real good with true dual exhaust.
For more information on these cams, I would recommend a search. To help you through the install, www.ls1howto.com is the place to be.

Give Eastside Performance a call (203) 269-1539 Ken can help you out. He just did a cam for my car about 2 months ago, and I have similar mods to what you have ( most of the bolton's ) and I went with a 12 bolt with 4.10's.. car pulls real good, is very streetable, and drives like stock in traffic... and is a beast when you want it to be. I'm sure that he can hook you up with what you are looking for. the cam he did for me should also work well with nitrous if you decide to add it later. Tell him Jason sent you and you are lookign for something like what he did for my car.

My car mae 403 rwhp and 389 tq, and carried 400 hp rom about 5800 all the way up to about 6300, and the tq was over 350 from about 3500 up to about 6000, so the curve is really wide and flat.... killer good for a street car, and I'm sure it will run at the track as well. My car has a lid, qtp longtubes (non HV collectors ) a catted Y pipe, slp lm, pulley and ported TB. No elec water pump, t stat or maf yet... so with that stuff addd in too, I would probably see around 410 to 420, thru he heavy 12 bolt and a steel driveshaft. I'd guess that your car would see similar power with similar mods. As far as headers go, the best advise I can give you is go with stainless ones, a bunch more $$, but htey don't rust out, something that a street car will have more of a problem with than a race car. After that, I'd say it's either Kooks or QTP's. I went with QTP's whenI bought mine because they were in stock, kooks had a 4 to 6 week wait, and Barry from QTP was very helpful. If you do go with QTP's, I'd think about the Y pipe though.. it's a bitch to get in the car. Depending on who is doing the install, and what you are gonna run for exhaust after the headers, I'd saythat should be factored into the decision.
P.M. me back with what Eastside has to say, if you give them a call and if you don't mind.
