Default how bad does your LS1 leak after cam swap

i'm getting ready to finish up my cam and intake install tomorrow and was just wondering if my motor is going to leak at every gasket i touched, especially the oil pan since i lowered it to do the oil pump. i dont recall seeing anybody having problems with them leaking real bad after doing this. do i have anything to really worry about in paticular leaking.

No leaks here, and I've been under my car more times than I can count.

Should not leak if the gaskets are still solid.

The only time you'll have a leaky motor is if you just finished working on a mustang!

shouldn't leak as long as you replaced any gaskets that needed it... mine leaked from the front cover seal, so I ended up having to take care of that. But that was because I torqued the timing cover down before putting the pulley on...

Mine eats oil and spits it out the exhaust. That's not a problem, it's a mod.

It shouldn't leak. You do have to RTV the bottom of the timing chain cover to the oil pan if it does leak there, could happen.

really the only necessary one is the front cover seal. The rest are reusable. Many people will suggest replacing the front cover gasket, waterpump gaskets, and maybe a couple more.

most of my friends swapped cams without a prob.. my friend billy had a oil pump nut drop into the pan, and the pan was pulled on a little as it was fished out with a magnet... then the pan seal leaked some....

one gasket later... it was leak free, like everyone elses.

dont worry about leaks... worse case, you just have to go back and replace the gasket.

VSG is spot on on this one. I have a GM service manual and they say DO NOT reuse the gaskets. If you want to make pretty sure you have no leaks I would say replace all gaskets except the oil pan gasket (it is a PITA to replace, the original gasket is riveted to the pan so you have to take the whole pan completely out). You are also supposed to RTV where the rear cover meet the oil pan as well. I know a lot of guys reused the water pump gaskets, but I am not. They are pretty soft and take a compression set when tightened. New ones are cheap anyway.

I say this because on my car, which had a cam swap done (not by me) and it leaks oil around the front cover seal. I would be money the cover seal was reused and no RTV was put on.

I am about to put my cam in, so if I successfuly fix my leak I might send the infor to JMX to put on the howto site.

IMHO that's a waste of money, but to each their own I've reused the factory gaskets several times in my car, and I'm STILL on the ones that came with it (minus the water pump gaskets, which I switched to the 99+ reusable style on the first cam change). Heck, the gaskets I'm running have been on three different shortblocks, still no leaks
