Default G5x4 cam first impressions.

the x4 is probobly the cam that people want the most info on, and there isnt a lot to be had on it so here goes/

so my car is done finnaly and the x4 is in it.
car is a 2000 SS m6
initial thought. wtf? it idles....... and it sounds tame... less lopey than my 224 on a 112 but with more throat to it?

the car is on pretty much a break in tune right now, running very rich.

on the road: cam surge? minimal.
gear: 3.73 definitely needs more
gas mileage: did 274 miles off a fresh tank today, thats driving it at all kinds of rpms NOT in 6th gear on the highway at 2k.

performance: 1st and 2nd gear are wicked, 3rd is alright then it falls on its face in 4th. definitely needs a good tune. ill update this post after that gets taken care of.

would i recommend daily driving it?
Absolutely under these conditions:
- Have the money or skill tools and time to check and change the valvesprings often.
- tall gears are a MUST
- have the supporting mods to handle the cam, and dont complain on here when you break your 10bolt.
- Valve reliefs or flycut, DONT try to run this in an m6 without.

Ill post sound clips this afternoon for those of you interested

also the valvetrain is noticeable louder than the 224 cam.
driving next to a curb you can hear it going like a sewing machine over the wide open borla exhaust.

I am considering this cam, I currently have an G5x2 and want a little more along with some AFR heads according to Lg it should be worth up to 20 Hp more than the x2. My valvetrain is not noisy and the idle is very tame with a good tune and drilled out TB.

IMO X2 to X4 is not worth it. I would just slap on a massaged AFR set (TEA) to fit your X2.

I dunno but 20hp for $450 sounds good to me. I have heard the x4 is not considerably more radical than the x2

Uhm, who told you it wasn't more radical than the X2? I can tell you it's more radical than my X3, which is more than the X2 This cam is BIG and you can tell, after driving it around more now, been 4 days since I installed it, it will let you know it's there down below 1500rpm, surges some. I don't care about the surge, it still drives amazing, but be prepared to never cruise through a parking lot at 900 rpm in first or second, more like gas, clutch in, clutch out, gas, clutch in, etc, etc.

lsa should be decided for its power range and not for lope. You can make a 114 lope like a 112 by lowering idle.

My guess is they bumped the idle up a little or else it shouldn't have idled anywhere near as well as it does. I heard it in person with both cams, and the x4 DOES idle better, but IMO it still has more lope. Go listen to his sound clip, I don't think I've heard a 224 sound like that.

Ok, but I still think it's quite a bit more radical, having owned the X3 and X4, the X4 is much different to drive, and the X3 is bigger than the X2, so I would safely say the X4 would be 2x's as rough as the X2.

I also have recently installed the x4 and love it. I haven't got it on the dyno to see the difference over the x3, but the swap was worth it. This is not a mild cam by any means. From what I can tell and have heard this is the LARGEST cam that may fit without flycutting. I say this because it is that close. Just adding my .02

Get some 4.10s and you love it. 1st 2nd and 3rd are nasty. 4th is your money gear up top and **** even 5th pulls pretty damn hard.

Do you install this cam dot to dot? Also, how much clearance is there?
