lifters when doing head install?
I didn't swap mine at 20K, and I had a needle bearing failure (they leaked everywhere) which then destroyed my engine. It was a freak problem, but for $200 I'd recommend that anyone replace them so they won't have to go through what I did.

Anyone that is taking the heads off should be sure to inspect the lifter guides to see if they are holding the lifters straight. Some of them hold the lifters crooked, and that can lead to a lifter turning, which wippes out both the lifter and the cam. New lifter guides wouldn't be a bad idea anyway; you're asking a lot from a piece of plastic to hold a lifter at 7000 rpm and higher than stock lift.

i used stock lifters on my setup, had about 34k on em. people run stock lifters with way bigger cams than me. but a set of comp 850's wouldnt hurt, but stockers are about the equivalent piece imo. ive never heard anything about messed up lifter bores though, and the lifter cups arent the greatest, but your higher lift cam if only increasing hte lift on the lift a fraction of an inch. id maybe just drill them to keep the oil out of em.

When I took my stockers 241's to portmatch them (int/exh) and to run them with a Cometic .045 for better quench and a little more SCR, I figured WTF and went ahead with a set of Comp 850-16's. I had 40K on the stockers.

Anyone know the part number for the lifter guides? Im not sure if mine are bad, but my motor is now being rebuilt after we found out the lifters, cam, and cam bearings were in bad shape. Is it possible the lifter guides caused all this?

What do you mean they were in "bad shape?"
How many miles? Regular oil changes? Was there a lot of play in the lifter guides with the lifters in place?

Your local GM parts guy can look up the part number for the lifter guides. I think they are $5 or $6 each. Good cheap insurance to put new ones in. Yes, they can cause your lifters, cam, and cam bearings to get trashed. It happened to me . . .
