z06 cam & heads on ls1 engine?
hello,
I have a '98 z28. my engine recently froze up on me. i was told that the engine needs to be rebuilt. someone told me that if i put z06 heads & cam into it, i would be very happy with the results. he's gonna rebuild my engine($1000)w/instllation,give me a z06 cam(freebee) and z06 heads($800)w/core exchange. he says that ill be at about 400hp after this.is this true?

with headers you should be there for sure. The Z06/LS6 cam is pretty mild by aftermarket standards, but the heads flow pretty well. Combine it all together and you should be right around 400 hp at least. Very streetable and reliable also. Make sure you get an LS6 intake manifold also. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

That does sound like a sweet deal. Freebee cam and LS6 heads for $800...what core charge?
You can make that much power with an aftermarket cam on stock heads, and as much as 450 rwhp with an aftermarket cam on ported LS6 heads. LS6 heads/cam would produce good power with excellent manners though.

With stock LS6 heads and the LS6 cam with no headers you will pretty much put down what a normal Z06 puts down which is around 340-360rwhp...You will definatly be 400 fly wheel horse power though...

will it make a big difference in horse power if i didn't buy an ls6 intake manifold with this application? if so, how much difference?
How much $ for the ls6 manifold?
I only have about $2500 on-hand to put into this car right now, but I also wanna get some good engine mods while my engine is out of my car.
what do you guys think?

The core charge is you would pay $800 on top of the normal cost of LS6 heads...You would not get back the $800 unless you send in a set of LS6 heads of you own...So make sure it is only $800 for the heads and there isnt a core charge.

I'll let you know what an LS6 intake manifold chokes on a cam here pretty soon. I have a large cam on an LS1 intake and will hopefully be getting it dyno'd again with LS6 intake and pulley (if my tranny isn't completely shot by then).

$800+(MY STOCK LS1 HEADS)=Z06 HEADS
DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT? OR IS THIS BS?
