Default What amount of total timing do the AFR heads like?

LS6 heads work best with 22 degresss, 5.3 heads like 28-31, but what do the AFR heads like? Just wondering so I can make up a bunch of files to save time at the dyno. Thanks!

Arun,

Are you going back to Mississauga for the dyno testing? Let me know if you
want some company.

I'd like to have mine dyno'd as well.

My tuner tuned my set-up to "about 28.5"
I do not know a lot about running timing myself.

hmmmmm... my ls6 headed motor, made the most power and torque with 30 degees advance, with a 13.2 a/f, and most other ls6 cars i see like around 28-30 degees depends of course on octane of gas, compression, and such, so 22 degrees advance seems pretty low to me on advance to be optimal timing for a ls6 head equipped motor

timing is a subjective thing, each setup has its own preference. you can't claim a "blanket" timing preference for setups just b/c of they have type of head instead of another.

Besides, theres what it can take (and what makes the best power) at torque peak, and what you can sneak in after that (more isnt always better). Just saying 29 degrees isnt much info, since I know you probably dont have that in the 4800 cells above 60 kpa.

Depends largely on the cam you choose as well. My car liked 24 degrees best with ported LS6 heads, my 5.3's on my old combo liked 28 degrees best. (Different cams and compression in both instances)

Even with a cam and al the cars i've tuned via edit and my car too the LS6 heads only responded to 22-24 total timing. After that torque fell off, then HP. Z06's come with 22 stock and uping that is worth nothing-i've tested that on mine and a few others at the dyno. I'm not interested in the LS6's as I now have AFR's on. I just want to get a bunch of files ready to save time at the dyno-that's all.

I've always heard the LS6 heads need less timing too so I would think there would be a ballpark range to start for each style head.

My AFRs are with 23 at 4400 and up to 28-29 at 5600+. I didn't notice any gains from changing my timing table from stock much.

My AFR's made the best power at 26*. We tried 31 and even without any knock, I lost about 15hp at peak.

Could any of you post up your tables? I know I don't personally blanket tune my car at 25 degrees (or whatever), and would like to observe some tuned tables.

Well, it depends on where right? As an average? For example the 'dip' around 4400 is for a hotspot , yet it looks to be upper 20's at high RPM.
