Need help with valve covers & rockers on a 98 LS1
I am looking into getting some 1.7 roller rockers and since i have a 98 i guess I have to grind my valve covers. I was thinking of just getting spacers instead of grinding. I checked out thunder racing and there spacers were like $300. that seems pretty high for spacers. I was wondering if anyone had the spacers for cheaper or if someone had a good write up or pics on grinding the valve covers? Thanks.

When I did h/c two years back on my '98, I ordered the yella-terra roller rockers. I heard that it was possible to clearance the valve covers to get them to fit. I ground the hell out of those valve covers for over 2 days with no luck at all. Some places I got the metal so thin that I made holes in them trying to get them to fit. I eventually came to the conclusion that not only did the rockers hit the perimeter bolt area on the valve covers, but they were also hitting the top of the valve cover. It was very frustrating to say the least. I went back to the stock rockers and sold the rollers.

they have a group purchase going on right now for harland sharp rockers for pretty cheap. Thats why i am looking into it. I know the stock rockers should be fine but the stock rockers just look like a cheap piece of stamped metal. I think some nice roller rockers would It should be more reliable with the cam and current mods i have now.

HS will NOT fit perimeter VC's without grinding the livin' poopoo out of BOTH the rockers AND the VC's, and then it's no guarantee. The VC spacers (More and some others) is the only reasonable answer at ~$260 for two. BTDT! If anyone knows anything different, please, LMK.
Is it worth it? Time will tell.

where would you have to grind the rockers? I think it If i can set it up for under $ 550 thats not to bad, but i dont want to have to gring the rockers. dont the rockers come with shims so you can set the rocker preload like the Yella Terra install on www.ls1howto.com ? Or am I completely wrong and in a different direction here.
