Why do you need a ls6 oil pump after new cam?
I'm getting ready to install a new cam and can't really figure out why you would need a ls6 oil pump and a ported one at that. also i'm setting the rev limiter to 6100 so will i still need hardened pushrods?

any time you do something upgrading to something better is always a good idea. the stock ls1 pump is known to fail, do you want to take that risk? i bought a brand new ls6 oil pump for 61 bucks. if u have dual springs hardened push rods is a great idea, i wouldnt do the install without either. make sure u get a new timing chain too. ls2 chain is about 28 bucks

You dont NEED one, some just recommend it. I talked with lingenfelter about their oil pump when I bought my SB, they said my stock one would be fine. They arent that expensive if you find them at the right place, so its your call. I prob. should have but I have bought so much I already dotn have a pocket left.

yea i know, but i dont want to pull apart the motor now, i still have good oil pressure so no need to now. i will change it out when i put in the new cam hopefully at the end of the summer.

you are fine with your oil pump. 90 percent of the oil pressure problems are excessive bearing clearance and if your pressure is good forget about it. The oil pump thing gets beat to death on this forum.

I've been in my engine three times with different cams and now heads, and never changed the oil pump, still the stock one it came with. 48k miles, over 700track passes, and so much more. Theres as much as little slack now as there was when I bought the car. Insurance, maybe! I've read about more rollmaster doubles failing than stockers. Thats just my opinion.

when you are turning alot of rpm's you want to insure that there is a high volume of oil pumping through and lubricating all the vital parts, if you have a insufficent pump that isnt pumping out an adequate amount of oil, that nice expensive block of aluminum could go bye bye...just a thought, but would you really want to sacrafice all this for what 80 bucks?

well i'm setting the rev limiter to 6100, and i know i'm not gonna get as much out of the cam that way but i'm not worried about that, so with that said should i still need the pump, and i have excellent oil pressure now, and i shouldn't be able to "over-rev" the engine at 6100rpms so wouldn't the stock pushrods be fine?
