Possible Problem
not really sure if this is an issue to bring up or not. i have my heads back on and tightened down, using arp studs. well i got looking and the studs on the drivers side are flush or just barley protruding from the nut. and on the drivers side all the studs stick through about an 1/8 of and inch, if that. i thought that i made sure all studs were down as far as they could go when i put them in. this is the second time this has happened any body else have this issue
yeah i thought so i used an air compressor and hosed everything out really good. has nobody ever had this happen? the big studs look ok its just the small ones on the top row and only on the passengerside. they are consistant all the way across. this is conserning me. if i just took the small studs out would i have to get new gaskets? i mean i dont know what to do. any help would be great
Can you get a picture of what you're referring to?
Are the studs/nuts in question actively compressing the cylinder head down? I.E. are the nuts on the studs mating with the head at all?

yeah sorry, on the passenger side they are flush on the drivers side they are protruding slightly, both sides are symetrical for what is going on. just hard to believe that it would be like on all of them.
You need to chase the threads in the block before threading in the studs. This happened on an iron block we got back fresh from the machine shop. They were a little "stiff" going in, so we pulled them back out, chased the threads, put a small amount of lube on the studs and they threaded in with fingers and all lined up fine.

new question are the heads on the ends thicker? each stud in the center row is just barely through the nut but just on the ends and on each head. the exact same amount of stud is sticking out above each nut. is this common or just another problem with not cleaning them out enough
