Default drilling iron block, how hard??

i was wondering how hard it is and especially how easy it is to make it crack and how deep i should drill in?? i was thinking about just enough to make the bolt turn a couple times then filling the space with washers?? any info would be great!!! thanks

What are you drilling for? Cast iron is pretty easy to drill in to. Alot softer then pure steel. Make sure the drill is straight from the begining, It realy easy to get out of round or oblong holes it cast. How much materal do you have around the hole you are drilling?

Dude...quit being scared...you can safely drill the length of that bolt minus the alt. bracket thickness.. I've already done it. Do you think I'm lying to you?..heehehee
Just go slow and easy. Cast iron drills out easily. Get a good new, sharp bit and go. Stop and blow the hole out every so often and check the depth with the alternator bolt. Don't forget to include the thickness of the alt. bracket when measuring the depth. Go baby go!
