Forged 6.0 shortblock, how strong??
I can get a good 6.0 long block real chaep. I was thinking about getting some h-beam rods and good forged pistons and running the stock crank. I was wondering how strong is the stock 6.0 crank? I was gonna do a forged 346 but I can get the 6.0 for cheap and it will be a few more cubic inches. What size would a 6.0 be if bored .30 over with stock crank. Stock is 364?? I would love to do a 408/427 but my wallet and patience will not allow this. Nyone running this setup or know how reliable, much power could be expected with a good head and 90/90 set up...thanks

a 6.0L block bored over .030 using the stock crank gives you a 370ci setup and with the right components is strong as the gates of hell. also depending on other factors making upwards of 460rwhp is no problem.

Thanks for the input guys. I can get a 6.0 longblock with good crank and block for $250....that sound pretty good? I think that would be a better set up for the money than forging my stock shortblock.

this is basically what my new motor is, 04 6.0 block stock treated crank, eagle rods and wiseco pistons, solid roller, sheet metal intake and some spray. it made over 500 on motor through a t56 about 2 months ago. i'm going with a different setup with more CI and a liberty now but the 6.0 with forged internals is the only way to go for "budget" bang for the buck. i could see it handling in the 900 RWHP range with the right stuff in it. get the 6.0 and forge it, then sell your alum block/ls1 crank to recover part of the cost. or keep it and rebuilt it at a later date for a backup motor or something like that. that's what i did.

ive NEVER heard of a stock crank failing at any hp level, and with a set of good rod bolts, the stock rods have been proven to handle 700 or more hp, by members of this board.

pappydan, you have a truck so i assume you frequent the truck sections. if this is a fact then you should know that parish8 upgraded rod bolts and made like 700 with a stock 6.0 and a cam and turbo. imd is right, blanket statments like that mislead guys that are trying to put together a new setup.

the LQ 9 built with stronger stock parts then the LQ 4. now every book you can pick up on building a high performance LS block make the same statement on how much horse power the internal parts can with stand, these books also tell you to replace the stock rod bolts with ARP blots because the stock blots will not hold.
as for the blanket statement as noted by IMD, knowledge of his wisdom is shown in his sig.
the cam he is using is too big for the flow rate of the 6.0 heads with out porting and larger valves being placed in, the intake should always be lower then the lift on the exhaust for a turbo and the LSA should be wider to avoid overlap on the valves, I am sure the cam works but one made to match the flow rate of the heads and for a turbo set up will yield more horse power then what he has now.
as for Parish, yes I do know that he made over 700 rwhp but it was a forged and stroked 408 not a 6.0, check his sig and watch the video again.
while your looking at his video collection you will find a video on a stock 4.8 with his turbo set up and the mega squirt that made well over 500 rwhp. good video too.

it shows the progress of his 6.0 project before the 408.
it has a few dyno graphes combined to show what made the most power.
funny what are the highest numbers again for the 6.0.
i do think if it made more he would post the top numbers, never know parish not to hold back what he can do, or has done.
all the info he shares helps us build better motors.

And IF you wanted to make a little stronger, just nitrate it or Cryo it. (better have it polished and speced first, otherwise good luck doing anything to it after that).\
I onced cryo'd my piston rings before file fitting them and I can't describe how hard it was to do so afterwards.

Thanks for the input guys even though some got off subject. I am hoping to see 500rwhp n/a with this and gonna run 250/ 300 of giggle gas through it on top of it. I want to run single digits through the 1/4 with full interior, radio, a/c and all that normal stuff. pretty much stock car as far as interior and comforts go.

t56 is going to be a task to get into 9s with that setup...just due to the fact that it is going to be VERY hard on parts. i'm going for the t56 LS1 record once i get my t56 ready. not stock CI, and not as many creature comforts tho...good luck. contact HPE down in Houston, they have a complete short block ready to go right now i talked to them about the other day. stock crank, scat rods, mahle nitrous pistons. it even already has a set of hand ported 5.3 heads no it. i think it was right around 4k shipped to me...so maybe another 75 shipped out your way

Thanks for the tip about the engine at HPE. I would love to buy it but im trying to get the money up to build my T-56 stronger so I will be slowly purchasing parts for the engine lil by lil. I dont want to give up my 6 spd but i wanna have a 9 sec street car as well. I know it can be done just takes patience and lots of $$$$$
