Default Think i'm finally going to a TTP 395

well i think i might have TTP build me a 395 stroker with Lunati forged parts and reuse my A/S stage 2.5 5.3 liter heads. I'll be giving them a call tommorow and get all the last little details before i go ahead. Whatda think

I think you would be better with a 408 and upgrading heads.
However with the 5.3 heads I think you will need a dished piston.
Good luck

4.125" stroke cranks had oiling problems. I don't know if that's been fixed, or if that was a particular engine builder that the problem was with. But, I'd look into that because that's an out of square motor with its 3.905 bore and 4.125 stroke.

And yes, the 408 would be better, overall, but for what you already have parts-wise, the 395 might work well and make you some nice power, especially with TTP building it. Although, ditch those heads and just get the TTP Stage 4R head/cam package since that'll make as much power as the 395 with your heads and cost less.

I'm still not sure if i should go 408 or 395. I would like not to spend more money on heads again plus i want to stay with an non steel block. would my headers be good for a 408, Kooks 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8. I would like to build a nice motor but i do not want to break the bank

Going Alum sleeved block, I would spend the money on those things,
1- The block (IMO Steve Damijian is the best)
http://www.raceenginedevelopment.com/
2- the lightest rods
3- The best heads.

u could do a 387 all bore motor.
Not the cheepest setup, but one that works quite well.

Like I said, just go with the TTP 4R H/C package. 500+rwhp in a 346 for 7k with FAST LSX90 since you already have the Kooks Stepped Headers. If you want more, forge the engine and spray a 200 shot on it. The 395 isn't going to do much better HP wise, but will make more torque, and a 408 will make more everywhere while being more streetable, but the engine itself will cost you 10-11k+FAST 90+Fuel System+labor. All-bore aluminum block is going to cost you as much or more and make the same amount of power.

Send the heads to TEA and have them open up the combustion chamber for the bigger bore and they can get the CC up to reduce compression. Not only that, but the added bore size will increase flow. While you are at it, have them put in some 2.08 valves and blend the bowls in. Should see flow in the 325cfm+ range.

We have a 395ci package that is almost daily driven by a customer. Absolutely no oil issues, does not burn one drop. There are a few things that we do to our 395 / 4.125 stroke packages that has avoided the infamous oil issue.
