2001 LS1 or not?

I just picked up my LS1 setup today and after much research I'm thinking its not a 2001 engine. First of all it does not have cast Exhaust manifolds, and it has the EGR. The VIN # that was given with the setup is for a 2001 Camaro SS but the engine its self is not looking to be a 2001. Any info on this would be great. Could there have been some 2001 models with welded up Exhaust manifolds and the EGR? I dont guess its that big of a deal but I asked many times to make sure I was getting a 2001 engine so I would have the LS6 intake and the other updates.

Also you can check the VIN on the engine. There is a short version on the block. Check out the pic for it's location.

I'm guessing the EGR setup is that tube with the heat shield running out of the front of the intake. Is not part of the EGR. Looking at 2001 LS1 engines I don't see that so that why I figured its a EGR. Also my manifolds are not cast which in this thread, CLICK it states that in 2001 they had cast manifolds. To be honest the manifolds that are on the engine do not even look like Camaro manifolds. The manifolds point down with just the end pointing back a little. I'm going to have to go get some pictures and post them to see what's up.

I have an 8 digit # off the block but its not from where your picture is pointing. I will up town to my shop to take some pictures. I'm getting pissed about this crap as I asked over and over if it was a 2001 LS1. Watch this engine not even be out of a Camaro. I would assume that its against the law to sell something like this with another cars VIN info. If they sold me a engine like this knowing it was not right I bet they did not give me the correct mileage.

If both the intake and exhaust manifolds have EGR, they are not from 2001. You said you asked over and over if it was a 2001 LS1...were you asking about the engine specifically, or the car? If you were asking about the ENGINE specifically, why ask that? was it advertised as not having the stock engine?
Look at the valve covers and coil packs. Are the coil packs on a rail that sits on the valve covers or is each coil pack individually mounted to the valve cover via two bolts?
Are the vavle covers attatched with bolts on the perimiter or through the middle?
Do realize that if it's an older engine it's still an LS1 and an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1.

Well how about this, They sold me a 99 LS1 with who knows how many miles on it for $4500 when they told me at least 6 times its a 2001 and then they gave me a 2001 SS VIN #. The Engine Vin is 1X2115118 which is for a 99 LS1. I'm sure this would be considered Illegal don't you think?

BlkZ28spt, I tend to agree that an LS1 is an LS1 but when you pay for a low mile 2001 setup you should get a low mile 2001 setup. Its my understanding that the 2001 had an LS1 intake and could come with better heads which is why i asked for a 2001 Engine. Maybe Im all wrong but this is not what I paid for and it looks to me like there where trying to pass it by with the 2001 VIN.

Okay, I get it now.
You bought an engine only, they said it's an 01 and you have verified that it's a 99. I'd be a little
, if they lied about the year who knows what else is up.....
Did they tell you mileage?
Edit: 2001 came with an LS6 intake manifold as the only major difference. Heads are very minimall different among the years, as are a few other little things most would never notice. Injectors for example, 26# on 99-00 and 28# on the rest.

They told me 41K for mileage but I bet that was not true. These guys take these drop outs to lots of car shows and stuff so who knows how many people have been tricked. Well i better not say that just yet as maybe this was just a mistake but im thinking not. Im just pissed I cant get up with them until they open again Monday.

After looking the engine over better Im thinking it was in a fire. The oil filter is rusted as well as the engine mounts, and some other parts that should be painted. The block is sorta clean but does have some **** looking stuf on it. The trany looks brand new as well as the intake. The exhaust manifold it not for a camaro or at least not this engine being the EGR stuff is not hooked up and has no where to hook up on that side. To be honest I have no clue what I have. I will resize some pictures and post them in a minute.

Motor looks fine to me... The rust is from sitting for a while with out being used. Those manifolds don't look like mine so I'm going to guess its not an Fbody manifold. Sorry I can't help more

I do not think it is a Vette motor. Vettes have fly by wire TB's. It is definately not a 01 but a 99/00. Also look at the alternator positioning, consistant with F-body.

He has verified that it's a 99 LS1, and that it's from an F-body. He is just trying to figure out things like why it's a 99 whne he was told it was an 01, why it has non f-body exhaust manifolds, and what those exhaust manifolds actually belong on.
