Default Need Advice!!

After owning the car for just over a year now, I now have the funds in place to get Project LoPeYz28 underway. My goal is to make the car as quick a possible with the funds I do have. I don't care how well the car is suited to the street since I only take it out on weekends as a toy. I have $6000 to spend and I need to spend it as wisely as possible. I know for sure that I'm going with a BIG cam (T-Rex, MS3, F15, etc.). The next decision is whether I should get some complimenting heads or to go with nitrous. Both would be nice, but this money also has to go towards a new rear end as well as suspension components and the other needed bolt ons and any other costs that are going to arise. I'm open to pretty much any suggestions anyone has. Thanks guys.

Well with that big of a cam you're definitely going to need better flowing heads to utilize the major lift on those. Even if you slap nitrous on, your main restriction is still going to be your head flow (seeing that you already have things pretty much taken care of in the exhaust department). You could get a pretty good deal on cam + heads now as PRC is having a sale on the stage 2 5.3's for $1400. So, total you would spend under $2000 for that setup. That leaves ~$4100. A new rear end will leave you with $1600. LS6 intake + ported TB will leave you with ~$1050, we'll say. SFC's ($200 ) + LCA's ($150) + Springs ($200) leaves you with ~$600. Aaaaand guess how much a set of QA1 shocks are? You guessed it, $600. Now what does all that leave you with...

Haha! Well I do have the LS6 intake manifold. The dilemma is cylinder heads or nitrous. The heads will be better for everyday performance, but I won't get the same power as a 150 shot without heads and just a cam. Maybe I can bribe a sponsor with some of that leg humping and $5000 or so in business.

Wow, not a bad budget.

Have you talked to some of the sponsoring shops here? I'd find a good shop and work out a plan, but if I had to guess...

12 bolt rear - $2,000
Cam package - $850
Heads - $2500

That leaves $650 for tuning and some brewskies.

I'm almost in the same position (just not yet). I don't know if my next power mod will be nitrous or heads, with both coming eventually. I'm leaning towards heads because bolt-ons+cam+nitrous on a stock bottom end can and does work, but it's far from bulletproof.

That $6k will go FAST. Rear end alone will take nearly half of it, and rear end plus clutch (assuming you need a good clutch) will take more than half of it. You will be lucky to get rear end, cluch, sticky tires, heads/cam, subframe connectors and a dynotune. Guess a lot of it depends on what heads you get. Sad thing is that by the time it's all said and done you might have rear end, clutch, cam, some supsension, tires, stock heads, no nitrous and be out of budgeted money.

The 9 inch and the rest of the drivetrain is going to eat a sizeable chunk. I'm leaning towards heads as they more predictable and safer than nitrous. If any sponsors see this thread, don't hesitate to chime in with any ideas.

I say go ahead and price out the rear end, clutch, tune, yada yada EVERYTHING but heads/cam and see how much that costs. Then see what you have to work with for heads and/or cam.

That's a good plan. The sound of "Fastest & Quickest Naturally Aspirated LS1 In New Mexico" has a nice ring to it!
