How many of yall loosend and tighten your crankbolt holding the pulley with the impact gun? What was the rating of the gun and how much psi were you running? Thanks

You'll probably need a 1/2" socket. They can be tough.

I use to remove ,BUT I do not install with air gun,650 tork at 110 psi,

may make a tool to hold flywheel
hope the drawing of tool is understandable
use a 1/8 x 2 flat bar about 12 in long insert into flywheel threw the round hole in botton of bellhouseing ,the notch in side will hold tool in place
PS: THE DRAWING DOES NOT SHOW UP CORRECT ,it should be about 2 in wide all the way down

I loosen with a breaker bar. The less banging and vibrations on the crank and bearings the better. I'm sure using an impact gun is okay, I just think a breaker bar works well enough.

So i will only be able to break the pulley free with the impact gun and not tighten it with it? So the only way i can retorque the bolt down is to lock the flywheel with a tool? Thank you very much

Used a Craftsman 1/2" impact to loosen and tighten. No problems whatsoever.

My earthquake impact gun (650lbs 90psi) wouldn't budge my crank bolt. I took the torch and heated it for about 45 seconds and hit it with the impact and it came out like butter. I didn't use it to put the new one back in though.

This works quite well. I've done it this way on my LS1 as well as a number of other engine types. If the car is raised so the bar doesn't reach the ground, you can just lay it across the frame rail on the left side of the car.

BTW, I learned this trick from a GM dealership mechanic; they often do it this way.
