If I were you I would use Red Line 10w-40 (quieter) or 10w-30. I've used Mobil 1 10w-30 also, great stuff too. Patman will chime in soon.

I didn't see the point of posting in this thread (until you mentioned my name) since we've done these types of threads 100 times. Everyone knows I'm a huge fan of German Castrol 0w30. I just changed my oil on the weekend, and sent a sample of the used oil to the lab. I should have the results today or tomorrow. I put 8000 miles on the oil, over a 5 month period.

Patman- what are your thoughts on the different oil types being more prone to slipping through the PCV system and into the intake runners? I have always ran 10w30 Mobil 1 synthetic and I have always had oil consumption to some degree (obviously) via the intake/PCV system. I have the LS6 valley cover, new pcv, properly routed lines with excessive line for cool down time, the AMW (best out there) catch can, a Metco breather and I am still getting oil residue into the runners. This has been experienced with 3 different motors.

I just recently swapped to 10w30 Castrol GTX which I have always used in every other car I've owned. I am just testing at this point, but I feel confident that the type oil swap will very likely resolve my "oil in the intake" issues. I will have concrete results after a trip to the track using a new FAST 90mm intake. This may be a bit off topic, but it is oil related

Do you know of an online company that stocks German Castrol 0-w30. My friend Lou got 2 cases at an Auto Zone but they almost never have it and no one else in central FL stocks it.
Thanks, Dave

I do think the thinner oils like Mobil 1 tend to consume more through the PCV system than a slightly thicker oil will. That is why Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 isn't the best choice for these engines.

Im sure you've anwsered this, but is there a specific # to the German brand that you could lookup or order via autozone?

My local autozone always has it in stock. I gess if someone really wanted the GC and couldn't find it, I'd ship it out, for cost+ shipping of course...

Unfortunately the SKU number for German Castrol 0w30 is the same as the old American made Syntec 0w30, so you would never know for sure you're going to get the right stuff. A lot of Autozones still have the old US stuff.

What's so great about this German Castrol oil? I hear people talk great things about it, but what is it you like so much about it?

Because it consistently turns in very low engine wear in the oil analysis reports.

Just use any of the better oils, such as Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Quaker State, Castrol, etc. and spend your time worrying about more important things. Most people will not own their car long enough to realize any real or perceived differences between these oils. The differences in wear are, as a practical matter, almost immeasureable.

Actually it's a mid 30wt oil, and with the reformulation it's a little bit thinner.
